Margaret River, Western Australia   |    750ml   |    13.5%

"Very good Cabernet at a fair price" - Gary Walsh

With a history dating back to 1973, Woodlands is the one of the oldest and most respected names in the famed Margaret River wine region. Their combination of ideal 'terroir', old vines and skilled winemaking has resulted in wines that are amongst the best coming from this amazing region.

The 2015 Woodlands Wilyabrup Valley Cabernet Merlot is another exceptional Margaret River red wine from the team at Woodlands. Dense and impeccable structured, this offers an abundance of blackcurrant and ripe mulberry flavours of bright, finely textured palate. A top line Margaret River Cabernet that delivers exceptional value drinking.

"Very good Cabernet at a fair price. Blackberry and dark chocolate, a little dusty cedar oak, mint and tobacco. Medium bodied, cool, calm and composed, rich with dark fruits mainly (some red) and savoury flavour, but light on its feet. Gentle drag of tannin, fine acidity, and a grainy and gently sappy finish of excellent length. You’re laughing here. Rated: 93 Points Tasted: Jul17 Alcohol: 13.5% Price: $28 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2017 - 2025+" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

Woodlands vineyard was established in 1973 by David & Heather Watson on Caves Road in Wilyabrup, and was one of the first five vineyards to be planted in the Margaret River Wine Region. David and Heather aimed to create wines to emulate the great vineyards of Bordeaux.

Woodlands came to fame early on with the release of our 1981 ‘Andrew’ Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine won trophies for ‘Best Red Wine’ at the Perth Wine Show, the Mt Barker Wine Show, and the National Wine Show. This wine was the first from Margaret River to achieve a National Red Wine Trophy.

Subsequent Cabernets made by David Watson won trophies and critical acclaim across the country.

2015 was a warm consistent year producing wines of balance, with a wet spring followed by warm dry conditions from February onwards.

The portions for this blend were harvested in late March before being sorted berry by berry on our vibrating sorting table. This process allows us to remove any leaves, stems, or green berries that can result in bitter or under ripe characters in the wine.

This wine is a blend of 52% Cabernet Franc, 43% Merlot, and 5% Malbec that has spent 10 months maturing in one, two and three year old French barrels.

Intense crimson in colour, the nose is bright and aromatic- showing an array of red berry fruits. The palate is playful and energetic, with lovely lifted primary Cabernet Franc characters of briar patch and raspberry combining with blackcurrant from the Merlot and a touch of white spice from the Malbec. The finish is fine, with bright acidity and vibrancy.
