Dog Point Vineyard is situated in the Wairau Valley, the major grape growing region of New Zealand. It combines the considerable wine growing experience of Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and James and Wendy Healy, formerly of the famous Cloudy Bay winery. The philosophy of Dog Point Wines is total involvement by the partners from the vineyard through the wine making process to marketing regionally distinctive and vineyard expressive wines.

This 2015 Dog Point Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc is a brilliant example of their handy work; intense aromas of tropical fruits combine with mineral and green citrus notes and a touch of oak. The palate is full bodied and stacked with concentrated citrus fruit flavours. A great partner to fish, poultry and vegetable dishes, or with aromatic white cheeses.

The name Dog Point dates from the earliest European settlement of Marlborough and the introduction of sheep to the district. "These were days of few fences, of boundary riders and boundary keeping dogs".

Shepherds' dogs sometimes became lost or wandered off and eventually bred into a marauding pack which attacked local flocks. Their home was a tussock and scrub covered hill, overlooking the Wairau Plains, designated by the early settlers as Dog Point.

Dog Point Vineyard is situated at the confluence of the Brancott and Omaka Valleys and is one of the oldest privately established vineyards in Marlborough. The property owned by Ivan and Margaret Sutherland with its undulating terrain, clay loam soils and desirable northerly aspect is sensitively planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and farmed using sustainable viticultural practices.

James and Wendy Healy join with the Sutherlands to form the winemaking partnership with the objective of creating regionally distinctive wines with a point of difference. All fruit is sourced from Dog Point with a major emphasis being total involvement together by Ivan and James in the production process from vine to bottle and with significant industry experience they make a formidable team. Utilising New World technology together with Old World philosophy and practices their intention is to produce wines of a style they would like to drink themselves.

Appearance: Pale Straw in colour.

Aroma: Ripe aromas of grapefruit and lemons with overt white floral characters in the forefront. The hint of struck match aromas characteristic of this wine, reflect the use of solids during fermentation and ageing, adding a dimension of complexity and interest.

Palate: The palate displays vibrant, varietal Sauvignon qualities, with citrus, racy fresh acidity and after 18 months of ageing on lees, creamy textures and a toasty, nutty finish.

Vintage Notes: Our 2015 harvest, began with an early start on the 3rd March after a warm and dry season, with only half of our annual rainfall (310mm). It was a small yielding year due to indifferent weather at flowering, followed by a dry summer, which lead to concentrated wines that will age well.

Cellaring Potential: Five to seven years.
