Clare Valley, South Australia   |    750ml   |    12%

Under $20 Bargain Wines - Tony Love

The Wilson family established its vineyard at Polish Hill River in 1974, in the ensuing years it has established a reputation as one of the finest exponents of the ever-popular Clare Valley Riesling. The Wilson Vineyard Watervale Riesling is the culmination of Wilson's search for the best vineyards within the Watervale hamlet inside the southern entrance to the Clare Valley.

The 2016 Wilson Watervale Riesling delivers powerful aromas of freshly cut grass leading to a zippy palate, with fine citrus flavours and slatey, minerally undertones - another classic Clare Riesling from Wilson.

"If you’re looking for genuine value in Australian white wine, this is an indication of what amazing treats you’ll find. Fruit from a band of vineyards at the east of Clare’s hallowed Watervale sub-region offers all the variety’s hallmark delights: attractive lime, leaf and cordial aromas that spill into the tasting, all couched with a citrus-pithy mouthfeel, lip-smackingly fresh yet with a fulfilling depth of character overall." - Tony Love, Under $20 Bargain Wines, The Advertiser, March 23, 2017.

"This is the best Wilson Watervale I’ve had in recent years. I’m off to taste (blind) some 70 2016 Clare Rieslings this week, I think. Lavender, lime and apple with a touch of smokiness. Juicy flavour, juicy acidity, light chalk dust texture, ripe limey length. There’s an intriguing kind of liquorice root flavour through the wine, though that could just be me. Goes now. Delicious. Rated: 92 Points Tasted: Dec.16 Alcohol: 12% Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2016 - 2026" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

From a band of limestone which runs along the range to the east of the Watervale township comes this highly aromatic wine.

The Wilson Watervale Riesling displays grassy herbaceous notes which lift from the glass. Delicate lime flavours fill out a crisp and clean palate. Pure summer refreshment.
