Voyager Estate Shiraz 2014

Voyager Estate Shiraz 2014

Margaret River, Western Australia   |    750ml   |    13.5%

96/100 | Excellent - Ray Jordan

The 2014 Voyager Estate Shiraz is another brilliant example of Margaret River Shiraz offering lovely purity and fleshy concentration while retaining the finesse that is the hallmark of the Voyager style. The palate is silky textured, with plenty of sweet red, black cherry fruits with hints of spice, nougat and fine tannins. While this is a wine with a long life ahead of it, it's pretty irresistible now.

"96/100. I was looking forward to seeing this 2014 wine from Voyager. I just had an idea that it was going to be special - well it is. Perfumed aromas of cedar and light white pepper with some neat crush herb influence. The palate is beautifully poised and medium weight with a great tannin and oak balance to hold the fruit so gently. Bright and with so much palate energy. Excellent. Cellar: 10 years"- Ray Jordan, WA Wine Guide 2016/17.

“94 Points. Hand-picked in batches between 26 Feb and 18 Mar, destemmed for whole berry fermentation, with 1.5% viognier co-fermented, 13 days on skins, then pressed to French (88%) and American (12%) oak (34% new), matured for 11 months in barrel with further maturation in tank. A classy, complex shiraz with an intense bouquet and a persistent palate of blackberry, licorice and briar. The low level of tannins means (paradoxically) the wine is a now or later proposition. Drink by: 2034 Date tasted: 04/Jan/2016 Price: $38.00 Alcohol: 14%"- James Halliday,

Latest statistics show that, although only producing 4% of Australia's wine by volume, Margaret River wines account for 23% of the country's premium wine production. Voyager Estate is proud to be among the select wineries that contribute to this production.

Voyager's oldest vines date back to 1978, just over 10 years after vines were first planted in the area. When current owner, Michael Wright, took over the property in 1991, he set out to expand it and develop a visitor destination that would be a showcase for the region. He also set out to ensure that, above all else, the quality of wine being made at Voyager Estate would always be the best that nature, expertise and pure hard work could provide.

Our seven Shiraz blocks comprise five clones planted on some of the toughest, shallow, gravelly soils on the Estate. This helps to reduce the inherent vigour of this variety and produce exceptionally pure and concentrated fruit.

We thin the crop to one bunch per shoot to improve palate weight and structure in the finished wine. The result is a rich and concentrated wine, with ripe fruit flavours and fine, silky tannins. - Voyager Estate.
