Voyager Girt By Sea Cabernet Merlot

Voyager Estate Girt By Sea Cabernet Merlot 2014

Margaret River, Western Australia   |    750ml   |    13.8%
Margaret River's Voyager Estate has firmly established themselves as one of Australia's leading exponents of Cabernet Sauvignon; their 'Girt by Sea' Cabernet Merlot regularly delivers high quality drinking at a very reasonable price. This 2014 vintage is one of the more impressive releases we can recall; delivering classic regional flavours of blackcurrant, dark cherry and milk chocolate on soft, well structured palate. Fans of Margaret River Cabernet will find plenty to like about this, particularly at this discounted price.

"92 Points. 60/ 40%, all Voyager wines are fermented in a mix of open and static fermenters, on skins up to 17 days, matured in a mix of new and used French and American oak for 12 months. An elegant, medium-bodied wine that is in the mainstream of Margaret River blends of this style; the use of some American oak is interesting - if it was intended to sweeten or soften the palate, it hasn't done so; here the farewell is of bay leaf and black olive, which sit well with the other flavours. Drink By: 2029 Price: $28.00 Date Tasted: 04 Jan 2016 Alcohol: 14%"- James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.

"New, one and 2 year old French and American oak. Already 3 years of age upon release, the steel of MR Cabernet tempered somewhat by the anvil of the more readily accesable merlot. Rich umami underscoring fallen eucalypt, dark chocolate, fig, blackberry, mulberry, violets, cigar smoke and molasses. Medium bodied, a caramel/vanilla American oak note pierces through the dark berry compote and purple, awash with fine tea tannin and finishing long with that dark figgy chocolate. Served with braised beef cheeks. RRP: $28 Alc: 14% Rating: 17.5/20" - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com.

When current owner, Michael Wright, took over the property in 1991, he set out to expand it and develop a visitor destination that would be a showcase for the region. He also set out to ensure that, above all else, the quality of wine being made at Voyager Estate would always be the best that nature, expertise and pure hard work could provide.
