Toolangi Yarra Valley Chardonnay

Toolangi Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2018

Yarra Valley, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13.5%
Toolangi Vineyards was recently purchased by Helmut Konecsny, owner of Rochford Wines. 2018 is the first set of wines under the new regime - the 2017 vintage was sold off in bulk so the new Toolangi team could start afresh, so to speak. There is now a single winemaker in charge of all the wines: Mark Lunt, who's CV includes multiple vintages in Burgundy at Rousseau & Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

The Toolangi Chardonany was hand harvested from Toolangi's 2001 plantings (on A1, A2 & C Blocks), crushed and pressed with full solids straight to oak (20% new). Fermentations were wild, and the wine spent eight months on lees in barrel before bottling.

"On the money. Lovely wine to drink. Enough flavour, enough complexity, a bit of style and a satisfying finish. Honeysuckle, flint, stonefruit, malt and toast. Oak is sinking deliciously into the wine. Bran/toasty oat-like highlights too. The more I looked at it the more I liked it. Rated: 93 Points Tasted: May19 Alcohol: 13% Price: $30 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2019 - 2023" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

"Smooth and creamy with a luscious core of stone fruit, pear and apple, it's scented with delicate floral notes, grapefruit and charcuterie, creamy yeast-derived complexity and coriander plus a suggestion of buttery, vanilla-like oak. Round and generous, with juicy fruit and cashew-like complexity, it extends over a fine dustiness towards a long and focused finish with a light savoury edge" - Toolangi Wines.
