Toolangi Pauls Lane Chardonnay

Toolangi Paul's Lane Chardonnay 2018

Yarra Valley, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13.5%

Toolangi Vineyards has a clear and seemingly simple strategy; grow and source the highest quality Yarra Valley grapes and put them in the hands of the best winemaker for each varietal. This has served Toolangi well and today it stands as one of the star wineries of the Yarra Valley.

This 2018 Toolangi Paul's Lane Chardonnay is a Yarra Chardonnay of the highest quality; round and creamy, smooth and voluptuous, with a gentle, mouth filling core of flavour and nougat-like complexity finishing with a hint of butter, gentle lemony acids and a faint smokiness. A wine that is already attracting plenty of attention, our limited allocation will not last long.

"98 Points. Crushed and pressed with full solids straight to oak (20% new), both primary and malolactic fermentations going through wild. It's a wondrous wine. Flinty, direct, pure and authoritative. It tastes of oatmeal, white peach, toffee apple and cedar wood though a) everything is cut and freshened by citrus and b) those flinty, struck match notes are stitched into every cranny. The finish, wow, it doesn't, or not in a hurry. One swallow brings a summer of flavour. Screwcap. 13.5% alc, To 2028" - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion 2020.

Viticultural Notes: Hand-picked on 12th March 2018 First established in 1995, Toolangi Vineyards is located in the Yarra Valley adjoining the Toolangi State Forest. This Chardonnay is grown on fine clay loam and produces grapes which represent the unique site. Low cropped and hand harvested from 23 year old vines of I1OV3 clone grapes on D Block rows 35 - 55. The 2018 harvest will be remembered fondly by winemakers in the Yarra Valley. It was a rare season that gave above average yields and excellent quality fruit. Dry sunny conditions with cool overnight temperatures provided good natural acidity and concentrated wines at lower alcohol levels.
