Tim Adams Shiraz 2016

Clare Valley, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14.5%
Tim Adams is a star winery of South Australia's Clare Valley, producing benchmark examples of the region's hero varietals. This 2016 Tim Adams Shiraz is made from a blend of four Clare Valley vineyards, which has produced a wine with strong regional and varietal definition. This delicious Clare Valley Shiraz delivers powerful flavours of blackberry, mulberry and dark cherry.

Further complexity is contributed by 24 months of American oak maturation, while is mid palate is soft and approachable and nice subtle tannins adds some nice structure. Another super value Clare Valley Shiraz offering from Tim Adams that's deserving of the plenty of recent attention it's been receiving.

"Toasty charred oak and vanilla dominate the bouquet. A very big, extractive wine with lashings of gritty tannins. Very full-bodied and grippy, a massive wine with no pretence to elegance but generous flavour and structure. Long-term. Lots of stuffing for the money." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review.

Owner and winemaker, Tim Adams, began his career in the wine industry as a cellarhand at the Stanley Wine Company in 1975, steadily working his way through the ranks to become winemaker in 1981 following graduation. The first inclination to leave came in 1985, when Tim and his wife were approached by local cooper Bill Wray to form a partnership of the two families to make wine and small oak casks.

The first wines under the Adams & Wray label were released in September 1986, by which time Tim had left the Stanley Wine Company. In May 1987 the Adams & Wray partnership was dissolved, and Tim and his wife Pam took full control of the renamed Tim Adams Wines. In late 1987 they purchased the existing winery site and opened the cellar door in January 1988.

Clare Valley
Description: Our Clare Valley Shiraz selected from premium vineyard sites has produced a wine with strong regional and varietal definition. The sophisticated wine has a rich deep crimson hue with aromas and flavours of blackberry, mulberry and dark cherry. Further complexity is built through 24 months of American oak maturation. The front and mid-palate is full and soft, with flavours of small berry fruit and spice complemented by the oak. The wine finishes with integrated oak and firm, structural tannin.

This elegant Clare Shiraz has power and finesse which makes it both approachable now and worthy of keeping for up to 10 years. The wine has been made naturally and may form a harmless crystalline deposit, so will benefit from decanting prior to serving.

Winemaking Notes: All components of this blend were separately fermented on skins to dryness before being pressed, with only selected softer pressings returned to the wine.

The wine spent 24 months in a combination of two and three year old American oak barrels and a further 12 months in stainless tanks before blending, fining, filtering and bottling in December 2018.
