Tim Adams is a star winery of South Australia's Clare Valley, producing benchmark examples of the region's hero varietals. This 2013 Tim Adams Shiraz is another delicious Clare Valley Shiraz delivering powerful flavours, subtle oak influence and an overall classy finesse that makes it pretty hard to resist now. Another super value Shiraz offering from Tim Adams this is well deserving of the praise it's been receiving.

"Best Buy Wine Under $25. Polished and peppery, this faintly minty Clare shiraz reveals a spicy but deeply fragrant bouquet of cassis, mulberries and blueberries handsomely integrated with fresh cedar/ mocha oak with undertones of vanilla and coconut. Supported by a fine-grained but firmish spine, it's long and smooth, with a seamless expression of palate-staining, almost jujube-like shiraz fruit that soaks up its oak treatment, finishing with a finely balanced acidity. Great value. $25" - Jeremy Oliver, Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine, September 2016.

"93+ Points. Tim Adams certainly stamps a style on his shiraz but if it’s to your liking, you’re in business here. It spends 24 months in American oak, and it shows. There’s deep, solid, substantial fruit here, all blackberried and mint-flashed, with smoky-vanillin oak splashed throughout and a good hit of grunty tannin. It’s a hearty red. The main points to remember though are: the fruit quality is high grade. And the oak has married well to the fruit, even if its fingerprints remain all over it. In its style, this is in pretty champion form you’d have to say. Tasted: Aug16 Alcohol: 14.5% Price: $25 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2017 - 2030+" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

"Spends 24 months in one and two year old American oak barrels and it shows on the palate with a light, drying finish. Smells of the Aussie bush - fragrant with bracken, gum leaves, sun-bleached earth plus a mix of chocolate and mulberries. Plenty of powerful tannins but not a humongous palate - tightly reined in its youth. Rating: 92 Drink By: 2026 Price: $25.00 Date Tasted: 26 Sep 2016 Alcohol: 14.5%" - Jane Faulkner, winecompanion.com.au.

Owner and winemaker, Tim Adams, began his career in the wine industry as a cellarhand at the Stanley Wine Company in 1975, steadily working his way through the ranks to become winemaker in 1981 following graduation. The first inclination to leave came in 1985, when Tim and his wife were approached by local cooper Bill Wray to form a partnership of the two families to make wine and small oak casks.

The first wines under the Adams & Wray label were released in September 1986, by which time Tim had left the Stanley Wine Company. In May 1987 the Adams & Wray partnership was dissolved, and Tim and his wife Pam took full control of the renamed Tim Adams Wines. In late 1987 they purchased the existing winery site and opened the cellar door in January 1988.

This blend of local vineyards has produced a wine with strong regional and varietal definition. The wine has a lively deep purple hue with aromas and flavours of violet, blackberry and mulberry. Further complexity is built through 24 months of American oak maturation. The palate is full and soft in the front and middle, with flavours of small berry fruit complemented by the oak. The wine finishes with moderate oak and fruit-derived tannins. This elegant Clare Shiraz has power and finesse which makes it both approachable now and worthy of keeping for up to 10 years. The wine has not been cold stabilised and may form a harmless crystalline deposit, necessitating decanting prior to serving. The wine is sealed with screw cap for freshness and authenticity.- Tim Adams Wines.
