Tim Adams Aberfeldy Shiraz 2013

Tim Adams Aberfeldy Shiraz 2013

Clare Valley, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14.5%

First class Clare Valley shiraz” - Mike Frost | RRP $65

Produced largely from the hundred-year-old Shiraz vines of the Clare vineyard of the same name, Tim Adams 'Aberfeldy' Shiraz is consistently a benchmark example of Clare Valley Shiraz. The just released 2013 Aberfeldy again displays great depth and length of flavour, showing vibrant red-berry and violet flavours, with well-integrated oak providing incredible complexity. It’s a bold but elegant Clare Valley Shiraz that will continue to flourish for many years.

"It's $65 a bottle, but take heed of what those in the know have to say, and buy yourself not one, but two - the first to enjoy now with a special occasion
lunch or dinner and the second to tuck away in a cool, dark place to see just how wonderfully it will have developed anywhere up to 20 years down the track.
We’re talking of Tim Adams Wines’ just-released 2013 Aberfeldy Shiraz, made by Tim Adams and Brett Schulz from fruit off premium dry grown Clare Valley
vineyards that were planted in 1904, and this one the label’s 23rd annual release. Always much anticipated, Aberfeldy Shiraz has long been synonymous with quality, one highly-respected wine writer even dubbing it “like the Clare Valley’s Grange.” - David Ellis, Gold Coast Sun, September 5, 2017.

"Tim Adams’ flagship red is a fine example of first class Clare Valley shiraz, with rich dark berry, plum and cherry on the nose and palate, spicy oak and firm tannins on the finish. Four years sees it drinking well with roast beef rib on the bone but it has the character and structure to age for up to 20 years. $65. 94 Points." - Mike Frost, Courier Mail.

"There's nothing shy about this structured and dense wine but neither is it brash. Yes there's an abundance of American oak flavour and texture as the style dictates, but the stuffing includes dark plums, molasses, dark chocolate and herbs. It's glossy with the powerful velvety tannins taking the full-bodied palate for a ride. Enjoy the trip. 93 Points. Drink By: 2030 Price: $60.00 Date Tasted: 01 Dec 2016 Alcohol: 14.5%" - Jane Faulkner, winecompanion.com.au.

Owner and winemaker, Tim Adams, began his career in the wine industry as a cellarhand at the Stanley Wine Company in 1975, steadily working his way through the ranks to become winemaker in 1981 following graduation. The first inclination to leave came in 1985, when Tim and his wife were approached by local cooper Bill Wray to form a partnership of the two families to make wine and small oak casks.

The first wines under the Adams & Wray label were released in September 1986, by which time Tim had left the Stanley Wine Company. In May 1987 the Adams & Wray partnership was dissolved, and Tim and his wife Pam took full control of the renamed Tim Adams Wines. In late 1987 they purchased the existing winery site and opened the cellar door in January 1988.

Clare Valley
The Aberfeldy has long been synonymous with quality, representing our flagship wine. Year after year, this wine continues to deliver the best that Clare Valley Shiraz has to offer. The Aberfeldy has vibrant magenta colour with aromatics of cherry, plum, dark berries and chocolate complemented by the oak derived characters of clove, nutmeg and vanilla. The palate is full bodied with dark berry conserve flavours and balanced oak, firm tannin and acidity. The wine has persistent length of sweet fruit and oak, with power, elegance and great finesse.

The wine has been sealed with a WAK closure, an internally threaded screw cap with a traditional look. This wine is worthy of keeping for up to 20 years in good conditions. We recommend decanting prior to serving.

The Aberfeldy has become an iconic Australian Shiraz, consistently collecting Gold medals at the International Wine Challenge in London annually.

Growing Conditions: A dry year in 2013 meant that yields were a little down, but flavour was concentrated and intense. Red wines are full bodied, yet elegant at the same time.
