Stella Bella Chardonnay

Stella Bella Chardonnay 2016

Margaret River, Western Australia   |    750ml   |    13%

Over the past decade Stella Bella has established itself as one of the shining lights of Margaret River wine, their Chardonnay is rarely anything short of stunning. The 2016 Stella Bella Chardonnay again hits the seemingly perfect balance between restraint and power; taut citrus, pear and mineral elements build in the mouth and match perfectly with the savoury, nutty yet subtle fine‐grained oak. The finish has a pleasant grapefruit‐like tang and the signature length of flavour; a Margaret River Chardonnay of the highest quality.

"95 Points. Bright straw-green; brimming with life and energy, the fragrant bouquet of citrus and white flowers, the palate intense and very long; the flavours are spun around beacons of white peach and grapefruit, the barrel ferment inputs simply adding complexity. Drink By: 2026 Price: $35.00 Date Tasted: 27 Feb 2017 Alcohol: 12.5%" - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2018.

"Australian chardonnay has been in transition, moving from ripe, oaky, full-bodied wines to something lighter and finer. When pendulums swing, there can be extremes, and trendy "new wave" types can be like acid grapefruit juice with strong sulphide pongs. Unimpressive! Stella Bella is a great example of the modern style without the excesses. White peach and citrus characters integrate well with smoky, savoury complexities, and it has medium body and richness with relatively low alcohol, lingering long and fragrant in the mouth."- Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age, July 1 2017.

"94 Points. Talking of rock solid performers in Chardonnay, have a look at this track record for Stella Bella - right here. Nectarine, lime, vanilla nougat, spice and a little struck match. Medium bodied, good hit of lime and pink grapefruit flavour infused with vanilla and green olive - kind of rich yet restrained at once - glossy and smooth, with flinty and smoky highlights through the long finish. Spot on. Always a pleasure to drink. Tasted: Jun17 Alcohol: 12.5% Price: $32 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2018 - 2022+" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

The most critical site selection is applied to vineyard sites for growing Stella Bella Chardonnay. Each location adds to the complexity of the wine due to the soils, aspect, clones and microclimates unique to the respective sites. Applied to this rich collection of unique vineyards is the inspiration and skill of our winemaking team that draws upon traditional Burgundian winemaking methods and the use of fine grain French oak to craft a layered, flavoursome and complex wine with the capacity to age gracefully.

Appearance: Vivid pale straw.

Aroma: An expressive, complex nose with svelte aromatics - notes of orange blossom, peach, camomile and biscuity roasted hazelnut, with subtle smokey, flinty aromas from the finest quality French oak.

Palate: The palate is tight and focused - the result of another perfect vintage here in Margaret River. A real citrus assortment of lemon and lime highlighted with a delicious grapefruit brûlée. The textural finish has a lingering nuttiness and complexity from the battonage, enhancing the signature length of flavour which shows great persistence.

Blend: 100% Chardonnay.
