Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Marlborough, New Zealand   |    750ml   |    13%
Comprising nine varieties of grapes over 400 acres of estate vineyards, a modern fully integrated winemaking facility and a passion for excellence, Spy Valley consistently produces globally acclaimed award winning wines. Spy Valley Wines is so named for its proximity to an international satellite communications monitoring station in the Waihopai Valley; a spy base.

The 2017 Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc is fruit-driven in style, with complexity from lees ageing for several months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. A portion is also fermented in oak barrels giving this wine secondary aromas, smoother texture and more complexity; the result is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with intense flavours and crisp acid in a dry style.

"17+/20. Bright, light straw-yellow colour with some green hues, pale edged. The nose is up-front with moderately concentrated aromas of gooseberries and passionfruit, fresh herbs and snow peas. The aromatics are softly presented. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has up-front flavours of gooseberries and passionfruit with herbs and some cut-grass and nettle notes. The palate has depth and a firm core. The mouthfeel is brisk and racy with lively acidity, and the wine flows with good energy along a fine-textured line to a lingering finish of gooseberries and nettles. This is a fresh and lively, up-front Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry, passionfruit and cut-grass flavours with a fine line. Match with seafood, salads and vegetables over the next 2 years. Fruit from the Wairau Valley, fermented to 12.0% alc. and 3.1 g/L RS" - Raymond Chan, raymondchanwinereviews.co.nz.

"This award winning, smooth Sauvignon Blanc pairs perfectly with seafood, salads and tomato, lemon and vinaigrette dressings. With classic Marlborough flavours including ripe bell pepper and tropical fruit this wine’s crisp acidity rounds off an elegant structure. It’s aromatic flavours include grapefruit, mango, passionfruit and melon which are cultivated during an early morning harvest in Wairau Valley, Marlborough."- Mindfood.com.
