This 2016 Shottesbrooke Langhorne Creek Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect example of the quality and value for money to be found in South Australia's Langhorne Creek region. Fragrant and approachable, this medium-bodied Cabernet is brimming with plenty of varietal blackcurrant, subtle mint and dark cherry flavours, with a touch of quality oak and a silky mouthfeel rounding it off perfectly. A wine that is ready to be enjoyed now, this offers extraordinary value for money at this bargain price.

"95 Points. While not particularly deep, the hue is youthful, and the fragrant eucalypt nuances that accompany the fresh cassis of the palate are regional (and shared with Coonawarra). The finely spun tannins are a feature of a medium-bodied cabernet made to be drunk whenever the idea pleases you. Screwcap. 14.5% alc. To 2030" Drink By: 2030. Closure: Screwcap" - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2019.

Shottesbrooke’s journey began in 1981, when its founder, Nick Holmes, planted his very first vineyard. It was from these vines, and the quality of fruit they produced, that his passion for crafting wines from in and around McLaren Vale was born.

From these humble beginnings, Nick went on to acquire the property situated at McLaren Flat, upon which he constructed the Shottesbrooke winery and cellar door, and it was here that he began the journey towards creating the best examples of McLaren Vale wines possible.

Today, under the guidance of Nick’s step-son, and now winemaker and general manager Hamish Maguire, Shottesbrooke continues to produce a range of high quality wines from both their estate-owned and managed vineyards based in the premium winegrowing regions of McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, together renowned for producing some of Australia’s best Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Langhorne Creek
Vintage: Widely hailed as an outstanding success, the 2016 growing season in Langhorne Creek saw relatively dry conditions right through winter and into spring. As per most years, Lake Alexandrina's cooling breezes helped achieve even ripening conditions with low disease pressure, and this, coupled with even berry set early in the process, led to slightly above average yields.

Most red varieties from this region showed a wonderful depth of colour, good balance and complex flavour profiles, with Cabernet Sauvignon certainly being the stand out.

Winemaking: Conventional winemaking techniques were used to craft this wine. The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness to ensure no overripe characters crept into the finished product. The style of this wine is fresh, fruit forward and easy drinking, displaying all the varietal character expected of our Discovery Series wines.
