Riorret Lusatia Park Pinot Noir 2016

Yarra Valley, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13.5%

97 Points | Top 100 Wines - Tony Love | RRP $50

Riorret ('terroir' spelt backwards) is an impressive collection of single vineyard Pinot Noirs made by Steven Webber and the team at De Bortoli. All vineyards used for the Riorret wines are grown as biologically as possible, with a strong focus on healthy soils and encouraging natural predators in and around the vine canopy; hence their subtle presence on the labels.

The highly acclaimed Lusatia Park vineyard is found at Woori Yallock in the upper reaches of the Yarra Valley. This 2016 Riorret Lusatia Park Pinot Noir is a beautifully aromatic Pinot Noir that oozes class. Offering excellent depth of flavours; dark cherry, plum and strawberry, this has impressive complexity and the structure to further develop and soften with time in the bottle. A Yarra Valley Pinot Noir of the highest quality that comes with our highest recommendation.

"97 Points. Defined specifically from the Lusatia Park vineyard tended by Stephen and Kate Shelmerdine, this is made by De Bortolis Steve Webber who clearly has history with and holds great respect for the site and the fruit. The wine is a pure delight, the perfume like dark cherry scrunched up with bay leaf, with layers of interest, is it pomegranate? is it fennel? that keeps you going back sip after sip."- Tony Love's Top 100 Wines, July 2017.

"94 Points. From Block B of the Lusatia Park Vineyard, a distinguished Upper Yarra vineyard acquired by De Bortoli after purchasing the major part of its production for many years, hand-picked and sorted, 15% whole bunches, 15 days on skins, matured for 9 months in oak (30% new). The crimson-purple hue is good, and the bouquet has wafts of spice woven through the dominant cherry and plum fruit. Like many '16 Yarra Valley pinots, will benefit greatly from cellaring to soften the undercurrent of toughness. Drink By: 2021 Price: $50.00 Date Tasted: 27 Feb 2017 Alcohol: 13.5%" - James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.

REGION: Lusatia Park

VINEYARD: Located at Woori Yallock in the upper reaches of the Yarra Valley. Extraordinary north facing vineyard recently purchased by the De Bortoli family from Kate and Stephen Shelmerdine. Planted in 1985, close vine spacing, lots of manual work in the vines, deep red basalt soils. Typically produces highly aromatic red fruited Pinot Noir that is seriously charming.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS: 2016 was warm and dry through most of the growing season. Good rain in late January settled things down and the harvest was mild but quite early.

WINE ANALYSIS: Alc/Vol: 13.5%, pH: 3.67, TA: 5.2 g/L

CELLARING: Delicious drinking now but will develop into a wine with even more gravitas and complexity in 4-5 years.
