Pierro Chardonnay

Pierro Chardonnay 2017

Margaret River, Western Australia   |    750ml   |    14%
Located in the heart of Western Australia’s renowned Margaret River wine region, Pierro has a viticultural pedigree second to none. Owned and managed by Dr Mike Peterkin, Pierro is widely considered one of Australia's leading Chardonnay makers. The 2017 Pierro Chardonnay continues Margaret River's great run of exceptional vintages, particularly for white wines.

The key to the success of the Pierro Chardonnay is attention to detail in the vineyard. It is sourced from blocks on the estate surrounding the Willyabrup Brook which flows down the valley to the nearby Indian Ocean. Mike Peterkin believes that this natural watercourse provides a nourishing life-source for the vineyard. The mature vines are all from high density plantings, 4,000 to 5,500 vines per hectare. It was the deep roots of these mature vines that particularly flourished in the warm dry conditions.

"Following on from the low yielding 2015 and 2016 vintages, 2017 saw a return to normal yields. Summer was cool and there was rain late in March, after the chardonnay harvest at Pierro had been completed. The 2017 continues the remarkable consistency and quality that is Pierro Chardonnay. More aromatic than usual with hints of apple, melon and butterscotch. The palate is delicate and intense with length and precision. A wine that will build complexity with age and will reward cellaring." - Pierro Wines.
