A delicious blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, the 2017 Paxton The Guesser Red is a vibrant, fruit-driven red wine, bursting with plenty of juicy red fruit flavours; plum, dark cherry and a hint of mint. A great value McLaren Vale red wine, this is ideal for a range of occasions.

"Paxton The Guesser named in recognition of David's days working in shearing sheds in country Australia. The Guesser's job is to sort, clean & class the fleece of each shorn sheep. Also works in quite well with the history of our cellar door location Landcross Farm, which was previously an old sheep farm. The blend of selected batches of Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo drinks fruitfully with structure from the Cabernet it's a great wine with an even better price tag" - Paxton Wines.

Paxton is a family owned and run McLaren Vale wine company; founder and owner, David Paxton, is one of Australia's most highly respected viticulturists; David’s son Michael oversees the winemaking and second son, Ben, manages Cellar Door. Paxton vineyards are managed using biodynamic farming principles - farming without the use of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides with a focus on promoting healthy, living soils through natural compost preparations.

VINTAGE: 2015 vintage was one of the shortest and earliest ever recorded in McLaren Vale. Until February we experienced one of the coolest and driest summers since 1980. February warmed up and we saw early ripening of the grapes. This early ripening, as well as long periods without rain, made for fantastic colour and intense flavours at harvest. A great year for red and white varieties.

VINIFICATION: Selected batches of Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo were fermented and aged separately in small French and American oak barriques. They were blended to achieve a fruit-filled wine, expressing a nose of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, mid palate of Shiraz and finish of silky Grenache.
