The first vineyard plantings at Paringa Estate took place in 1985, following the purchase of a derelict orchard on Paringa Road. During the first ten years, McCall remained a fulltime school teacher, making his first vintages in his garage.
Today Paringa Estate is one of the jewels of Victoria's Mornington Peninsula wine region, consistently making some of the nation's leading examples of Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Chardonnay. Paringa Estate was named 'Winery Of The Year' by James Halliday in his Australian Wine Companion 2007 Edition.
The current Paringa Estate winery was built in 1998, and houses an outstanding a la carte restaurant on the upper level. Paringa Estate owned/leased 55 acres (22 ha.) of vines and processed 220 tonnes of fruit which produced 16,000 cases of wine.
The bouquet of this wine shows spicy blackberry fruit along with the lifted floral Viognier aromatics. The palate has black fruits, black pepper and fine grained tannins. A medium bodied wine with texture and power but with a fineness that reflects its cool climate origin.- Paringa Estate.
