Ocean Eight Verve Chardonnay

Ocean Eight Verve Chardonnay 2016

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria   |    750ml   |    12.5%
Ocean Eight is one of the leading wineries on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula; making tiny quantities of exceptional, hand-crafted wines. Over the years the team at Ocean Eight have honed the style of their ‘Verve’ Chardonnay and its now firmly entrenched as one of Australia’s most distinctive and distinguished examples of Chardonnay. The grapes for Verve Chardonnay are picked one week earlier than any other vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula and only old barrels are used for vinification to highlight the vibrancy of the grapes.

The 2016 Ocean Eight Verve Chardonnay is another intensely flavoured, racy version of Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay; soft white peach complimenting a backbone of crisp grapefruit acidity and lemon curd texture. The style is lean and clean with impeccable balance and length.

"The new Verve shows distinctive grapefruit & lemon on the nose alongside some mineral components. The palate almost gives you the illusion of richness due to the intensity of the fruit, then the crisp, dry finish kicks and lingers in an extended aftertaste. It drinks beautifully in its youth, as a fresh & vibrant Chardonnay. With Age this wine will develop further toffee and honey flavours. Drink for 10yrs+ Some great foods to match would be the freshest of crayfish, something rich like kingfish, and/or our local favourite, Flounder." - Ocean Eight Wines

Ocean Eight is owned by the Aylward family who have been located in Shoreham on the Mornington Peninsula since 1994. In 1996 a site was carefully selected and planting commenced. A large winery was constructed where the fruit would be processed by hand and made into high quality wine. This vineyard was named ‘Kooyong'. In 2004 Kooyong was sold to the owners of Port Phillip Estate.

Chris, Gail and their son Mike wanted to remain in the wine business and planned on creating a new wine brand. The name 'Ocean Eight' was chosen as the Winery is located 8km from the beach at Shoreham.

While an optimal vineyard site was being researched to produce high quality fruit, the Aylwards converted a stable yard at their property in Shoreham into a small gravity fed winery. All the detail was included to ensure top quality wines could be achieved. All Ocean Eight's wines are made in small quantities/batches to ensure high quality and a focused style.
