Oakridge LVS Willowlake Chardonnay 2017

Oakridge Willowlake Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Yarra Valley, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13.3%
Oakridge has long been considered one of the stars of the Yarra Valley and amongst the finest cool climate winemakers in Australia. Their 'Vineyard Series' explores the unique 'terroir' of individual vineyard sites throughout the Yarra Valley, paired with the skilled winemaking of David Bicknell and the team at Oakridge.

The 2017 Oakridge Willowlake Chardonnay follows in the footsteps of the hugely popular 2016 vintage of this wine. Crafted from grapes grown on one of the oldest vineyards in the Yarra Valley; this is bursting with cool-climate flavours yet has a restraint and balance only found in the finest Australian Chardonnays.

"96 Points. It’s now referred to as the Vineyard Series rather than as the Local Vineyard Series. Whatever you call it, this is a beauty. It’s impressiveness is immediately apparent. Strong fruit, tight lines, complex messages that stay with you. Grapefruit and flint, oatmeal and fennel. It soars. Drastically good wine. Tasted: Sep18. Alcohol: 13.3% Price: $38 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2019 - 2025+" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

All grapes are handpicked to maintain the quality Oakridge is renowned for, utilising traditional winemaking techniques and minimal intervention, with expert hands using their innate knowledge and understanding for successful vintages year after year.

The Oakridge grapes are grown in varying altitudes and terroirs driven by Chief Winemaker David Bicknell, so whilst all reflecting the characteristics of the 100% Yarra Valley fruit, each also exude their own personalities. It is the varying altitudes and terroirs that allow the team to continually create award-winning wines that do justice to the many Oakridge Wine varietals; each and all exemplifying the Oakridge elegance, freshness, purity, balance and length that create world-class table wines.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES: Handpicked, wholebunch pressed. Sourced from the Willowlake vineyard in Gladysdale (planted in 1981). An elevated site, at 150 to 180metres altitude, and grown on red volcanic soils.

13.2% alcohol.

TASTING NOTES: Lively acidity, with grapefruit providing the tension and a little meal and slight touch of sulphides on the nose. Engaging wine that is as much about the textural palate, as it is the finesse and detail. Long, extremely refreshing and a bargain.
