Montevecchio Bianco 2017

Montevecchio Bianco 2017

Heathcote, Victoria   |    750ml   |    12%
The impressive Monteveccho range of wines come from the meticulously tended Chalmers vineyard in Heathcote. The Montevecchio wines are made by the highly skilled Sandro Mosele whose minimal intervention style allows the varieties and terroir to shine through in these food friendly wines.

The 2017 Montevecchio Bianco is super interesting (and delicious) blend of Vermentino, Garganega, Malvasia and a small amount of Moscato Giallo. There's plenty of apples and stone fruits on the nose, along with some subtle soft spice for added lift. The palate is light to medium-bodied, with crisp, clean flavours, crunchy acidity, and a refreshing finish.

“A co-fermented field blend made from vermentino, garganega, fiano, greco and a small percentage of moscato giallo.” Of course, I like to capitalise my grape names, but this taken from the Chalmers website, and I’m lazy. They say to serve it ‘extra-chilled’ on the website, which is fine, though I think the wine is better than that. Apple, sea water and preserved lemon, with that lovely ‘dry white wine’ feel, that perhaps doesn’t make much sense, but kind of does. It’s vinous, chalky textured, with a zip of sweet lemon acidity, and a long crunchy finish, with a salted almond aftertaste. This is a treat. And very good value. I recommend it. Rated: 92 Points. Tasted: Apr18 Alcohol: 12% Price: $24 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2018 - 2021" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

From the meticulously tended Chalmers Heathcote vineyard comes the Montevecchio range of wines. The site is perfectly situated on the east facing slope of the Mt Camel Range, comprised of the famous red earth of the region. The twenty hectare vineyard has been planted to thirteen different varieties, predominantly Italian. The name Montevecchio translates literally as ‘old mountain’ referring to the ancient Cambrian origins of these soils.

The Chalmers’ years of experience in viticulture, and their passion for Italian varieties is matched by the care and expertise of winemaker Sandro Mosele. Sandro's minimal intervention style allows the varieties and terroir to shine through in these food friendly wines.

Fragrant, fresh and fruity, this wine shows notes of white peach, cut red apple and zesty grapefruit. It is crisp yet giving on the palate with a clean dry finish. Enjoy extra chilled with some a summer spread.
