Majella Shiraz

Majella Shiraz 2015

Coonawarra, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14.5%

The Majella Shiraz first appeared in 1991 and has since gained a reputation as one of Coonawarra’s finest. The 2015 Majella Shiraz offers plenty of ripe red fruits and vanillin aromas on the nose, the palate is supple with cherry and raspberries flavours and a touch of clove, cinnamon and black pepper. Long and evenly balanced with fine silky tannins, this is a fine example of Coonawarra Shiraz.

"95 Points. A very elegant wine, almost-but-not-quite shy and retiring, with bright red and black cherry fruit and attendant spices (and pepper) coming through on the precisely balanced palate. Oak and tannins observe their duties on the finish and aftertaste. Screwcap. 14.5% alc. To 2030" - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2019 Edition.

Based in the famous Coonawarra wine region in South Australia Majella Wines are regarded as one of the regions finest red wine makers.

Fourth generation Coonawarra farmers, George and Pat Lynn, established Majella in 1968. Fruit had been prominently sold to premium, local producers, but on the whole Majella now reserves the best parcels for their wines.

Located on the prime cigar strip of red earth in Coonawarra, Majella is know for its premium wines and vineyard sites. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot are the hero grapes joined by little sister Riesling. The Malleea is the top flight wine; a traditional Cabernet Shiraz blend.

High tech winemaking equipment drives the winery, and the cellar door benefits from a Stephen Herbert (architect) designed space. The winery is functional and allows for pristine fruit and vibrant flavour to sing through.

The Majella Shiraz first appeared in 1991 and has since acquired a reputation as one of Coonawarra's finest Shiraz's.

A deep ruby red colour with a bright crimson hue. A spicy cinnamon bouquet, a delicious palate of dark red berry fruits, dark chocolate with hints of vanillin. The fine textured tannins lead to a long and evenly balanced finish.

As is usual here at Majella the fermentation was completed in 300 litre barrels and the wine was then aged for a further 18 months in a blend of French and American oak.

We present it as a great example of Coonawarra Shiraz at its very best.
