The 2015 Majella Cabernet Sauvignon is again in fine form; rich and juicy with plum, blackberry fruits and fruitcake-like flavours all on offer on this complex palate. As ever the finish is long with subtle, soft grainy tannins contributing to the impeccable structure that should see it cellar for many years to come.

Based in the famous Coonawarra wine region in South Australia Majella Wines are regarded as one of the regions finest red wine makers.

Fourth generation Coonawarra farmers, George and Pat Lynn, established Majella in 1968. Fruit had been prominently sold to premium, local producers, but on the whole Majella now reserves the best parcels for their wines.

Located on the prime cigar strip of red earth in Coonawarra, Majella is know for its premium wines and vineyard sites. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot are the hero grapes joined by little sister Riesling. The Malleea is the top flight wine; a traditional Cabernet Shiraz blend.

High tech winemaking equipment drives the winery, and the cellar door benefits from a Stephen Herbert (architect) designed space. The winery is functional and allows for pristine fruit and vibrant flavour to sing through.

WINEMAKING: Majella Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented in both static and rotary stainless steel fermenters with fermentation being completed in 300 litre barrels and the wine was then aged for a further 18 months in new and second use French oak hogsheads.

All Cabernet Sauvignon parcels are kept seperate to access batch quality prior to blending and bottling off site.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS: Season 2014 in Coonawarra will be described by most as one of the longest on record starting mid February and finishing in the first week of May. The winter season was the second wettest in the last 28 years providing a very welcome recharge to the underground aquifer.

The warm weather brought the ripening of the varieties on rapidly, but the cool nights and moderate days that the Coonawarra region is famous for soon rolled in around mid to late February, preserving the acid and flavour in the white varieties. The red varieties have benefited significantly from the cool slow ripening period.

The flavours seen in the field have translated well to the progressing wines. Overall, a perfect extended dry & mild ripening season for flavour, colour & tannin development which will deliver a classic Coonawarra vintage.
