Longline GSM 2017

Longline GSM 2017

McLaren Vale, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14.5%

In recent years Longline has been making some impressive McLaren Vale wines and this 2017 Longline GSM is the latest to grab our attention. This is a modern take on a traditional blend combining the purity and spice of Grenache with Shiraz that adds weight and depth to the wine with Mourvedre (or Mataro as it is also known) providing savoury aromatics and flavour to the palate. Grenache is the main act with Shiraz and Mourvedre a fine supporting cast.

A brilliant red with purple hue, there is loads of lifted red fruits of ripe berries and dark plum with subtle notes of fresh herb, spice and savoury notes of prosciutto and freshly tilled earth. The palate is soft and moreish with abundant bright red fruits, juicy blueberry and ripe dark plum fruits, and fine, soft tannins. An outstanding McLaren red wine that offers superb value drinking at this price.

"95 Points. This really is a lovely, richly tapestried wine covering the full array of aromas and flavours of the blend It coats the mouth without ever stopping the flow of the flavour through to the finish, new oak correctly dispensed with. Longline wines started in 2012 by Paul and Martine Carpenter with the vision of producing wines that represent the best of McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. Fruit from vineyard sites selected from nearly two decades of walking vineyards in these two great regions. Their vineyard parcels come from growers who understand their sites and what it takes to grow outstanding fruit.

Their winemaking philosophy is simple; wines made honestly and simply that challenge but more importantly speak of their vineyard origin.

Paul has made wine for a range of highly respected wineries including Wirra Wirra Vineyards and Hardys Tintara, in McLaren Vale and internationally with Domaine de la Janasse in Chateauneuf- du- Pape, Archery Summit in Oregon and Chateau du Bluizard in Beaujolais. LongLine Wines was formed in 2012.

Sourced from the Blewitt Springs subregion of McLaren Vale known for producing more elegant and fragrant styles of McLaren Vale red wines. Two dry grown vineyards in tiny parcels have been fermented individually in open fermenters, hand plunged with extended time on skins to produce savory and complex wines with fine structural tannins. Matured in large format seasoned French oak for 8 months prior to blending and bottling in December of 2017.
