Lake Breeze Bernoota Shiraz Cabernet

Lake Breeze Bernoota Shiraz Cabernet 2016

Langhorne Creek, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14.5%
Lake Breeze Bernoota has long been considered one of Australia's most popular red wines and has a remarkable track record of consistently high quality over the past decade. The 2016 Bernoota is a blend of Shiraz (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), carefully selected from old vines on the Follett family vineyard.

Matured for 20 months in both American and French oak barriques, the 2015 Lake Breeze Bernoota offers dark fruit characters of blackberry and plums, with a hint of choc mint and smoky oak aromas. The palate encompasses all of the trademark Langhorne Creek fruit sweetness and soft tannins. Although extremely drinkable now, it will mature gracefully for the next 10 years.

Lake Breeze is one of Australia's most awarded boutique wineries, including being named Australia's Champion Small Winery. The Follett family have been grape growers in Langhorne Creek for over 120 years and winemakers for 24 years and have rapidly built an enviable reputation for consistently producing outstanding wines.

The Follett family vineyard was established in the 1880's by Arthur John Follett, the great grandfather of Greg Follett, the winemaker. The varieties grown on the vineyard include Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay, with small blocks of Grenache, Merlot, Petit Verdot and White Frontignac.

Bernoota’ was the original name given to the homestead on the Lake Breeze property - it is an Aboriginal name for ‘camp among the gum trees’.

The 2016 ‘Bernoota’ is a blend of Shiraz (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), carefully selected from old vines on the Follett family vineyard.

The wine was fermented on skins in open static fermenters for 7-10 days, followed by maturation for 20 months in American and French oak barriques. The wine shows dark fruit characters of blackberry and plums, with a hint of choc mint and smoky oak aromas. The palate encompasses all of the trademark Langhorne Creek fruit sweetness and soft tannins. Although extremely palatable now, it will mature gracefully with correct cellaring for the next 8-10 years.
