Kingston Estate Shiraz 2017

Clare Valley, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14%
With a winemaking philosophy of sourcing the best grape parcels from South Australia's leading wine regions, Kingston Estate has gained a reputation for producing outstanding value wines that are brimming with true varietal flavour and plenty of regional personality.

The 2017 Kingston Estate Clare Valley Shiraz is a prime example of this and a standout among the impressive Kingstone Estate range of wines. A gold medal winner at 2018 New Zealand International Wine Show, this is a full-bodied Clare Valley Shiraz loaded with plenty of sweet blackberry, plum and juicy mulberry flavours. Some nice toasty oak influence adds complexity to what is an utterly delicious drinking Shiraz, and an absolute steal at this price.

"Clare Valley Shiraz. Good offering. No hesitation really. If you’re looking for a well-flavoured, well-powered, uncomplicated shiraz that’s ready to drink now, then this is a suitable candidate. It’s rich with plum, clove, raisin and dark cherry flavours and although it’s satisfying, sweet and substantial it’s not too heavy or overdone. Oak or oak flavour is a player here but it’s applied in perfect measure to the fruit. It’s convincing from the first sip. Rated: 90 Points Tasted: Dec18 Alcohol: 14% Price: $19 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2018 - 2022"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

Since the late 1950's, the Moularadellis family have been in Australia's wine industry, first as grape growers and then winemakers. Their move to winemaking began in 1985 when their son Bill Moularadellis formally started Kingston Estate Wines after completing his oenology studies. In that first vintage Bill, with the help of his parents, crushed just 60 tonnes of fruit and Kingston Estate was born.

The Kingston Estate winemaking philosophy is to source the best wine parcels from the best South Australian regions to deliver true varietal flavour, rather than blending varieties. Throughout both ranges this could entail the selection of one or more regions to ensure the best possible example for that variety and its regional characteristics for that vintage.

Clare Valley
Clare Valley vineyards yielded the fruit for our 2017 Shiraz. Near perfect conditions of a wet spring followed by mild dry conditions allowed a long, slow ripening period.

BOUQUET: Evident plum and pepper spice is complimented with the essence of black olives and subtle hints of toasted oak.

PALATE: Complex cassis and dark chocolate notes are exquisitely balanced with fine tannins to provide great length and a smooth finish.

PAIR WITH: Slow cooked pork shoulder with fennel and rosemary roasted vegetables.
