Kilikanoon Morts Block Riesling

Kilikanoon Morts Block Riesling 2018

Clare Valley, South Australia   |    750ml   |    12.5%
Kilikanoon is one of the shining lights of the Clare Valley, consistently producing leading examples of Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. This 2018 Kilikanoon 'Morts Block' Riesling is another intensely focused and flavoured Clare Valley Riesling; wonderfully perfumed, this offers plenty of lemon, lime and apple flavours; the length and complexity making it a standout example of Clare Riesling.

Review of the 2017 vintage included below;

"96 Points. Hand-picked, free-run juice cold-settled. The bouquet wastes no time in establishing the region, variety and quality of this single vineyard, multi-block riesling. The floral bouquet leads into a palate of striking intensity, texture and structure, lime and lemon both claiming ascendancy, neither winning. Price: $25.00 12.5% alc. Drink By: 2029 Closure: Screwcap"- James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.

Our Mort's Block Riesling is sourced from up to three unique vineyard sites in Watervale, all characterised by their moderately fertile, loam over limestone soil profiles. All fruit parcels were hand harvested in late February, typically yielding between 5.0 and 6.0 tonnes per hectare. The unique vineyard terroirs and elevation of these locations has captured the very essence of the vintage yet again.

Our Mort’s Block Riesling is once again a blend of 100% Watervale Riesling, carefully selected and blended from three unique vineyard sites located only minutes from the Kilikanoon winery. This close proximity enables the handpicked fruit to be quickly processed, locking in the intense varietal flavours and fruit freshness.

An excellent vintage overall, despite a few early weather and seasonal challenges,developed into a classic Clare Valley ripening pattern with warm dry days and cool nights prevailing over this time. The elevated, naturally retained acidities, tremendous balance and vibrant fruit flavours a hallmark of the vintage.
