John Duval Entity Shiraz 2017

John Duval Entity Shiraz 2017

Barossa Valley, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14.5%

When it comes to Australian winemakers, few are as esteemed as John Duval. Appointed Chief Winemaker at Penfolds in 1986, Duval followed in the footsteps of Australian winemaking greats including Max Schubert and Don Ditter, and was the custodian of Penfolds Grange for almost 30 years. In 2003, John Duval established his eponymous label, with a focus on old vine Barossa Valley Shiraz, along with some select other Rhone varietals.

As would be expected of a wine with such pedigree, the 2017 John Duval Entity Shiraz is another high quality Shiraz from this esteemed winemaker. Made with the intention of delivering an elegant Shiraz true to the Barossa, this again includes some Eden Valley Shiraz to help maintain the elegance and style of Entity. Approachable in its youth, this has impressive fruit depth and ample structure to ensure this wine will cellar for many years to come.

"99 Points. From old vines in five districts, fermented with submerged cap, matured in French hogsheads (32% new) for 15 months. Complex and rich from first whiff, it doesn't waste a single berry of this great vintage. So much power, such elegance. 14% alc. Screwcap. $50. Drink to 2047" - James Halliday, The Weekend Australia Magazine, May 25, 2019.

Traditional, low intervention winemaking techniques were employed with Entity, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, but with ample structure and fruit depth to allow great potential for improvement in the bottle under good cellaring conditions, for at least 10-12 years.
