Helen & Joey Inara Pinot Noir 2017

Yarra Valley, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13%
It's never easy to find a good drinking Pinot Noir at a reasonable price, however this 2017 Inara Pinot Noir blew us away when we recently tasted it. Made by the highly regarded winemaker Meg Brodtmann MW at Helen & Joey Estate, this single vineyard Yarra Valley Pinot Noir has enormous appeal.

A study in classic cool-climate Yarra Valley Pinot Noir; this is beautifully approachable and fresh with plenty of lively raspberry, strawberry, red cherry and stewed rhurbab flavours, which are supported by gentle spice and silky fine tannins. A wine that is ready to be enjoyed now, this is brimming with appeal.

Helen and Joey Estate is located in the prestigious Yarra Valley, just 45 km north east of Melbourne. The cool continental climate, paired with substantial average rainfall provide excellent grape growing conditions. The Fernando Vineyard on Spring Lane in Gruyere was purchased in 2010 by Helen and Joey. Since that time much passion, hard work and expertise has gone in to producing premium fruit of all the varieties planted across this stunning 200 acre farm.

After the warm, compressed vintage of 2016, vintage 2017 saw a return to the more typical cool vintages of the Yarra Valley. The cooler autumn meant our Pinot noir fruit ripened slowly and evenly. After harvesting, the grapes were gently crushed prior to alcoholic fermentation. We were very careful with our cap management, using gentle techniques to extract the velvety tannins and colour components. After fermentation, the wine was pressed off with 15% of the wine aged in two year old French oak barrels for 6 months. The wine was bottled young to retain its freshness.

Tasting note: The 2017 Inara Pinot noir is a study in classic Yarra Valley Pinot noir. Stewed rhubarb, spicy raspberry, fresh red cherry and cinnamon flavours are supported by silky, fine tannins. Enjoy it in its youth.

A classic Pinot such as the 2017 Inara Pinot noir deserves a classic dish – think confit of duck or Peking duck.
