Gold Medal - Australian Cool Climate Wine Show 2019

One of the standout wineries of the Adelaide Hills region, Hahndorf Hill has been in superb recent form recently with their white wines particularly impressive. A multiple gold medal winner, this 2019 Hahndorf Hill Adelaide Hills Pinot Grigio delivers a breathtakingly complex and intensely flavoured white wine that is rarely associated with this popular variety.

This is loaded with lip-smacking green apple and crunchy nashi-pear all wrapped together in a luscious, juicy acidity that is laced with a hint of musk. Vibrant and complex on the palate, this has the weight to complement a range of dishes - yet offers plenty of drinking pleasure as a stand-alone proposition.

"96 Points. I took this wine up to the house after my daily tasting to make sure I hadn't lost my senses. (I hadn't.) A storm-induced crop loss of 60% saw the grapes hand-picked from two Adelaide Hills sites, chilled overnight, whole-bunch pressed and flash-oxygenated to eliminate anthocyanin colour contribution, then cool-fermented in stainless steel, racked off lees asap to prevent 'plumping up'. An ever so fine distillation of nashi pear, a prodigiously long palate and crunchy acidity. Three gold medals and a trophy pre end-'19. $25. 12.5% alc. Drink by: 2025. Screwcap."- James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.
