Margaret River, Western Australia   |    750ml   |    14%

Flametree has now firmly established itself as one of the stars wineries of Margaret River. Under the skilled winemaker of Cliff Royle (ex-Voyager Estate), the quality of their wines continues to rise to impressive levels. This 2015 Flametree Margaret River Shiraz is delicious, medium to full-bodied Margaret River Shiraz packed with loads of dark fruits, licorice, blueberry and plum flavours. With some quality French oak influence evident, this has the structure to cellar for many years to come.

"96 Points. Wild-yeast fermented in batches in open and static fermenters, plunged and/ or pumped over twice daily, select parcels with whole bunches, matured for 10 months in French oak. A complex, full-bodied shiraz with black cherry, plum, licorice and spices all well and truly in play. The texture and structure of the wine are built around ripe, fine tannins. A long life ahead. Screwcap. 14% alc. To 2035. $27"- James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2018.

"Margaret River shiraz, aged in all French oak. I’d reckon this needs a bit of time but I’d reckon this is very good. Aspects of it feel quite raw; others feel polished and sure. It certainly has plenty of heft, especially in regional shiraz terms. Intense plum, almost into blackberry. Plenty of clovey spice. A toastiness. A nuttiness. A trace of bitterness, but not in a hard or green way. A spread of ripe, assertive tannin, slightly raw but rolling into a good position. If this is going to be consumed young, it needs a lengthy decant. Long life ahead. Rated: 93+ Points Tasted: Nov.16 Alcohol: 14% Price: $25 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2020 - 2030+" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

Flametree Cellar Door and Winery is located on the picturesque shores of Geographe Bay, at the gateway to one of the world's great wine producing regions; the Margaret River Wine Region.

Established in 2007 by the Towner family, Flametree Wines was created with passion for wine and a vision to become a world recognised winery producing exceptional quality wines with a laid-back style and elegance.

By winning Australia's most well-known and respected wine accolade, the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, with their first ever red wine, Flametree Wines has firmly established themselves in the upper echelon of Margaret River wine producers.

Proving that this accolade was not a coincidence and that Flametree was actually deserving of the prestigious award, the next vintage was also a finalist in the following years' show. This unprecedented success has since continued, with many critic reviews and awards.

WINEMAKING NOTES: Fruit was crushed, chilled, sulphured and given 3-6 days cold soak in a mix of open and static fermenters. Caps were plunged and/or pumped over twice daily. All batches were inoculated with selected Rhone yeast strains or wild fermented; the ferments were controlled at around 26-28 degrees. Select parcels were whole bunch fermented to encourage partial carbonic maceration and introduce vibrant, spicy strawberry fruit character, thus adding complexity to the final blend. The wines were inoculated for MLF, pressed off and then transferred into used French and American oak barrels. After 6 months in oak the 2015 Shiraz batches were blended, egg white fined and then bottled in March.

TASTING NOTES: Lifted blueberry, plums, liquorice and spice combine to create a soft fruit driven Shiraz style. The colour and perfume are testament to a fantastic Shiraz vintage. Soft extraction techniques using open fermenters have resulted in a wine with ripe fruit flavours and fine tannin structure. The palate has plenty of sweet dark fruits and spicy oak flavours. The introduction of a larger percentage of wild fermented batches has given the wine greater complexity and texture. The 2015 Shiraz was aged in older oak to preserve fruit flavours.
