Ferngrove Black Label Chardonnay

Ferngrove Black Label Chardonnay 2017

Great Southern, Western Australia   |    750ml   |    12.5%
Chardonnay thrives in the isolated and relatively cool-climate area of Western Australia's Frankland River regions. This is where Ferngrove call home and regularly make an impressive offerings under their Black Label range.

This 2017 Ferngrove Black Label Chardonnay receives plenty of care and attention from its winemakers; wild fermentation in new and old French oak with lees stirring has delivered some impressive texture and complexity, which are in fine balance with the vibrant white peach, grapefruit and citrus flavours.

A vibrant, approachable Chardonnay that is ready to be enjoyed now, this offers brilliant value at this discounted price.

"Night-harvested, crushed, pressed, part cultured, part wild yeast fermentation in new and used French oak, 10 months maturation. Expensive stuff at this price, particularly if all fermentation and maturation in oak (rather than planks/chips, etc). The fruit flavours are light on, suggesting generous yields; grapefruit, apple and a hint of oak spice. Should develop more character with a year or two in bottle. 89/100. Date when tasted: 26 Oct 2018. 13% alc. Drink By: 2023"- James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.

In winemaking, time patience and consistent weather are precious commodities. Situated in the Great Southern wine region, 360 kilometres south of Perth, Ferngrove Wines is one of the world’s most isolated wine estates. While this isolation makes the logistics tough, it is also what makes Ferngrove wines distinctly different.

Selected in 1998 for its favourable viticultural location 90 kilometres from the coast, the Ferngrove valleys and slopes have the rare combination of rugged, classically West Australian ancient soils and the cooling influence of the converging Southern and Indian Oceans. This unique setting allows grapes to ripen at a slower rate, allowing the winemaking team the time to cultivate and nurture vines to their absolute best.

The remote location has fostered a pioneering spirit in the team at Ferngrove. The experienced team take pride in striving for winemaking excellence.

Celebrating 20 years, the Ferngrove story is one of deep respect for the land and the time and care involved in making outstanding wine which reflects from where it comes.
