Fallen Giants Grampians Riesling

Fallen Giants Riesling 2019

Grampians, Victoria   |    750ml   |    11.5%
The Halls Gap vineyard in the Grampians has a long and revered history dating back to the 1960's. A long time grower for Seppelts and Penfolds, the vineyard was in the hands of the late Trevor Mast for many years, and in 2014 was acquired by Aaron Drummond. With a focus on Cabernet, Riesling and Shiraz, the single vineyard wines of Halls Gap Estate are labelled 'Fallen Giants' - a reference to the dreamtime stories about the creation of the mountains.

This 2019 Fallen Giants Vineyard Riesling is another impressive release from the Fallen Giants team. From the renowned Riesling region of the Grampians, this dry Riesling is bursting with fresh citrus characters, lively acidity and aromas of green apple and kaffir lime. An impeccable structure and beautiful clean finish round out a local Riesling of the highest quality.

Reviews of the 2018 Fallen Giants Riesling included below;

"97 Points. There's no question, the Grampians can produce riesling of the highest quality. It has exceptional tension and laser-guided precision, lime and slatey flavours, and length on the palate that is unsurpassed. It sits easily alongside top rieslings from the Rheingau. This wine has all those qualities, the price a side joke. Price: $25.00 Date when Tasted: 04 Feb 2019 Alcohol: 11.5 % Drink By: 2038 Closure: Screwcap"- James Halliday,

"95 Points. From the winery formerly known as Halls Gap Estate. It could hardly taste more delicious. It feels soft, flavoursome and long all at once. Kaffir lime leaves, steel and pure lime juice of excellent intensity. I liked it from the first sip but every time I came back to it I liked it more and more. The Halls Gap vineyard was planted on the steep eastern slopes of the Grampians in 1969. It represented part of the second coming of the Victorian wine industry which had seen very little new plantings since the turn of the century.

A long time grower Seppelts and Penfolds, in the mid 1990's the vineyard was acquired by the famed winemaker, the late, great Trevor Mast, and subsequently became a Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard. In 2014 it was purchased by Aaron Drummond (half of Circe Wines) and a new chapter commenced.

High elevation, old vines and ancient rocky soils have kept yields low but always delivered incredible quality. 23 acres under vine with a predominance of Shiraz, but a small paddock of old Riesling and Cabernet. The single vineyard wines of Halls Gap Estate are labelled 'Fallen Giants' in reference to the dreamtime stories about the creation of the mountains.
A dry style Riesling with lovely fresh acidity and notes of citrus and kaffir lime.
