Elderton Command Shiraz

Elderton Command Shiraz 2014

Barossa Valley, South Australia   |    750ml   |    14.5%

Elderton Command Shiraz has established a reputation as one of Australia's finest examples of Shiraz, and its legendary status is seemingly enhanced with each release. The newly released 2014 vintage of Elderton Command is another superb example of this iconic Barossa Shiraz. There's always plenty of interest in this wine and fans of Command will find lots to love in this one.

"97 Points. Hewn of 1894 ancient vine oomph and tannin management of aplomb, this is power corseted by a filmy, gossamer texture and sheer, strident vinosity. Put it this way, the wine could come from nowhere else, yet the overall impression is one of Elderton's newfound restraint. Oodles of dark fruit, anise, tar, camphor and a Cadbury milk chocolate creaminess coat the palate. There is a barrel ferment smokiness, too. The extraction levels are a point; the use of French and American oak sensitive. All is in a harmony and perfectly suited to the style. "The fruit was harvested by hand, with five small parcels harvested over five weeks to attain complex nuances. Fermented in open top concrete fermenters with chilled ferments, hand pump-overs and cap submerging with oak header boards for eight days; the process finished with barrel ferment and malolactic fermentation in new French & American puncheons. Aromas of blackberry fruit, aniseed and spices carry through to the palate which is rich, warm and generous.- Richard Langford
