Curly Flat Chardonnay 2017 Macedon

Curly Flat Chardonnay 2017

Macedon Ranges, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13%
Curly Flat claims Macedon Ranges is the coldest vineyard site anywhere in Australia, so it's little wonder Jenifer Kolkka and Phillip Moraghan chose to focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir when they established Curly Flat in the early 1990's. Curly Flat's Chardonnay has now established itself in the top echelon of Australian Chardonnay and the newly released 2017 vintage is another stunning example.

"96 Points. This is an epic Curly Flat release and enjoyed the fine lines and will have the longevity afforded by the 2017 vintage. A light yellow in the glass, white peach and just ripe fig dominate the nose with a subtle build of flint and mealy richness that backed by oak induced spice. The backbone is equal part citrus acidity and gentle vanillin spice, there are waves of peach and nectarine that are finely structured and beautifully integrated with the wines richer notes. The finish is long and shows impeccable balance. Irresistible now but will cellar."- Patrick Eckel,

"94 Points. It was released in May but the time to open it is not yet upon us. This is super young. It feels tight and lean when you first open it; it blossoms as it breathes but of course extra time in bottle is what it really needs. Macedon wines don’t like to be rushed. White peach, citrus, hazelnut praline, a certain chalkiness, a suggestion of smoked bacon. It’s not a show pony but it’s going to be an absolute ripper in time. Tasted: Jul19 13% alc. Screwcap Drink: 2020 - 2026+"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

Curly Flat, located in Lancefield 60 minutes from Melbourne was established in 1989 by Jenifer Kolkka and Phillip Moraghan.  From the outset, they had a clear focus on vinifying world-class cool-climate Pinot Noir & Chardonnay.  With a total 33 acres of hand tended vines, they and the Curly Flat team were committed to creating world-class wines that are an expression of both site and variety.

Jenifer and Phillip were determined to build quality in every aspect of their operation and they poured every resource into their 'baby', Curly Flat without compromise in the pursuit of excellence in wine quality with little or no regard to short-term or even medium-term return on investment.

As of late October 2017, Curly Flat is now owned and operated by Jenifer Kolkka along with Matt Harrop (ex Shadowfax) joining the team as Chief Winemaker to oversee the grape and wine production alongside our existing skilled team.
Macedon Ranges

BOUQUET: An aromatic nose of white stone fruit infused with fragrant lime blossom and fennel along with hints of struck match and wheatmeal which provide further complexity.

PALATE: Nectarine, white peach, and pear merge with grapefruit citrus, all lining up to be embraced by the cool charge of acidity. Subtle French oak and creamy lees provide both a savoury and textural frame for luxurious length. In unison, these elements form a palate of great vitality while maintaining tension and focus.

CELLARING SUGGESTIONS: Drinking now and over the next 8 - 10 years.
