Clyde Park Vineyard was established in 1979 when the varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were planted on the property. Further plantings since have increased the vineyard to 35 acres, expanding the original Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and adding Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. In all we have 7 clones of Pinot Noir, 6 clones of Chardonnay, 2 clones of Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc and a sole clone of Pinot Gris.
This Clyde Park Estate Pinot Noir is from a range of aspects and slopes within the Clyde Park vineyards. Soils are predominantly very low yielding black volcanic clay loams over limestone. Hands on viticulture, extensive use of green inputs - composting, winter cover crops, under vine mulch - mechanical weeding, no pesticides and limited (if any) irrigation.
Quite generous on the nose, this wine has aromas reminiscent of red fruits - raspberries, mulberries and cherry-plums - with hints of dried herb and forest floor complexity. It also shows some spice and charcuterie notes. The palate is well structured, flavoursome with plenty of complexity and interest. Nice, cleansing tannin and well integrated oak give a long finish to this Pinot Noir.
