Clyde Park Pinot Noir 2017

Clyde Park Estate Pinot Noir 2018

Geelong, Victoria   |    750ml   |    13%
Established by Gary Farr back in 1979, Clyde Park has remained at the forefront of winemaking in the Geelong region. The wines are made with a Clyde Park's uncompromising approach to winemaking and viticulture that ensures the quality is always exceptionally high. This 2018 Clyde Park Pinot Noir is crafted from seven different clones, typically handpicked which went through natural and whole bunch fermentation. Gentle pigeage was applied to all ferments which delivers a delicate wine, while still maintaining an impeccable structure and subtle richness, with silky and cherry red finish. Another exceptional Pinot Noir from the team at Clyde Park.

Reviews of the 2017 vintage included below;

"96 Points. This is the cat's whiskers, making you itch to taste the individual block wines. Deep, bright crimson-purple, its flavours are strung along a high tensile wire of foresty notes ex whole bunches, dripping satsuma plum and strawberry, curtailed and balanced by savoury notes and fine tannins on the finish. Screwcap. 13% alc. To: 2030. $40" - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2019.

"Powerful pinot in perfume and palate. Dark berrys, cedar, choc-liqorice scents, similar in the palate with a full thrust of fruit and silty, chewy tannins in tow. Dark fruit is the gist, an earthiness too, almost a bonox meatiness. Guttural stuff. Like it. Rated: 92 Points Tasted : Aug-18 Alcohol: 13% Price: $40 Closure: Screwcap" - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.

Clyde Park Vineyard was established in 1979 when the varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were planted on the property. Further plantings since have increased the vineyard to 35 acres, expanding the original Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and adding Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. In all we have 7 clones of Pinot Noir, 6 clones of Chardonnay, 2 clones of Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc and a sole clone of Pinot Gris.
This Clyde Park Estate Pinot Noir is from a range of aspects and slopes within the Clyde Park vineyards. Soils are predominantly very low yielding black volcanic clay loams over limestone. Hands on viticulture, extensive use of green inputs - composting, winter cover crops, under vine mulch - mechanical weeding, no pesticides and limited (if any) irrigation.

Quite generous on the nose, this wine has aromas reminiscent of red fruits - raspberries, mulberries and cherry-plums - with hints of dried herb and forest floor complexity. It also shows some spice and charcuterie notes. The palate is well structured, flavoursome with plenty of complexity and interest. Nice, cleansing tannin and well integrated oak give a long finish to this Pinot Noir.
