First planted in 1850, the Cirillo vineyard contains 6 hectares of gnarled old Grenache, Shiraz and Semillon vines (plus some more recently planted Mataro) in the prime sub region of Light Pass. The vineyard itself has deep sand over limestone soils that allow for the ideal combination of free draining topsoils and water holding subsoil. It's also all hand tended by Marco Cirillo and his family, with the sublime looking bush vines requiring the utmost attention to keep them fully producing. Most of the fruit is sold off (for top prices) to Torbreck, with only a smidgen retained for the Cirillo label.
The Vincent is a thank you to my father who has passed 8 generations of Italian wine making and grape growing knowledge to the 9th. This Grenache was crafted from vines planted in the Barossa Valley over 80 years ago. It is a rich and generous wine with depth and layers of complexity. A superb Grenache with lifted aromas and a lingering finish. - Cirillo Wines.
