Castelli Pemberton Chardonnay 2017

Great Southern, Western Australia   |    750ml   |    13.5%
Castelli Estate is a relatively new discovery for us and having only been established in 2004, clearly one of the rising stars of Western Australian Wine. The Castelli wines are produced from grapes sourced from the finest single vineyards throughout WA's Great Southern region.

The 2017 Castelli Pemberton Chardonnay is another classy example of Great Southern Chardonnay; intense fruit flavours, quality restrained oak and exceptional length. A high quality Chardonnay at a very reasonable price, this will offer plenty of drinking pleasure over the next decade.

In 2004, the Castelli’s dream of a family-owned winery became a reality when, upon the slopes of Mt Shadforth, the Castelli Estate property was purchased - A 120 acre farm which overlooks Wilson’s Inlet, Mt. Lindesay and the lush countryside around Denmark.

The property was acquired with a semi-complete winery which, with the family’s extensive construction and engineering experience, was later completed in 2006. With a strong commitment to quality, the next twelve months were spent putting together a highly talented winemaking team. The Castelli family enticed winemakers Mike Garland and Andrew Hoadley to come on board in what were the beginnings of one of today’s most promising Western Australian boutique wine brands.

Through our dedicated winemaking team’s extensive experience, the sourcing of the state’s best fruit and the family’s passion and commitment to quality, Castelli Estate’s wines hold the promise of something special.

With our name on every bottle, we are proud to bring you what is synonymous with the Castelli name: a passion for wines that are made with a relentless commitment to quality.

This is another lovely example of restrained, yet intense and generous Cool climate Chardonnay. The extended hang time in this vintage has helped produce a very intensely flavoured and sublimely balanced wine. There is an array of aromatics including apricot, pomelo and peach with some underlying toasted nuttiness and gunflint that dazzle the senses on many levels. Whole bunch pressing direct to oak and subsequent 100% fermentation in French Oak provides a lovely textural component and complexity. The hero of the wine though is the tightly wound palate that has a precise mineral core that shows great length and generosity and will suit cellaring over the next 8-10 years.
