Bream Creek, Tasmania   |    750ml   |    14%
As one of Tasmania's oldest vineyards, Bream Creek has a long established reputation as one of Australia's leading Pinot Noir makers. Made in Bream Creek's traditional bold style, the 2018 Bream Creek Pinot Noir offers a vibrant dark cherry nose and an intense, balanced palate with flavours of dark plums and cherries, savoury spices and subtle French oak.

Reviews of the 2017 vintage included below;

"96 Points. Opens with great colour; mouthfilling waves of black cherry and satsuma plum follow precisely in the tracks of the bouquet. It has exceptional finesse, line, length and balance. Trophies: Best Tasmanian Red Wine and Best Tasmanian Wine Hobart Wine Show ’18, plus significant gold medals in other shows. 13.5% alc, screwcap 96 points, drink to 2032, $42" - James Halliday, The Australian, March 16 2019.

"94 Points. It’s bold in style, though still identifiably Pinot Noir. Dark cherries, plum skin, spice and that autumn leaves kind of thing. Medium to full in body, sappy and spicy, dark and juicy, a slight chicory bitterness, fine rasp of tannin, dark fruit and spiced strawberry on a long smoky/earthy finish. Power with some finesse. It’s a very strong release. Tasted: Feb20 Alcohol: 13.5% $40 Screwcap Drink: 2020 - 2027+" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

Planted in 1974 on Tasmania’s east coast, Bream Creek is one of the state’s oldest vineyards. The original 5 hectares consisted mainly of Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller plantings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer.

The vineyard was purchased by Fred Peacock in August 1990, who increased Pinot Noir plantings and introduced Sauvignon Blanc and Schonburger (the first commercial plantings in the Southern Hemisphere of this rare German varietal). With his dedication and passion, this pristine vineyard is now a 7.5 hectare showcase of grape varieties ideally suited to the cool maritime climate of East coast Tasmania.

Bream Creek Vineyard is planted on a north-east ridge overlooking Marion Bay and the Tasman Sea on Tasmania’s east coast. This combination of a gently sloping site, coastal location and maritime influence provides optimal ripening conditions for premium quality grapes. The long, mild seasons feature cool frost free springs, long sunny summer days with gentle sea breezes to moderate the summer heat and an extended autumn ripening period to enhance flavour development. The surrounding topography and forest offer a natural windbreak from the strong, cold winds.

Soils are deep and range from brown to black clay loams with a little small stone on the higher ground. Particular attention has been made to match varieties to the different range of soil types within the vineyard.

Vintage 2018 will be remembered as one of the earliest, quickest and largest vintages to date. The quality if grapes received was excellent, with the warm weather during vintage allowing us to harvest at optimal flavour ripeness.

This premium cool climate Pinot Noir has a fragrant red cherry and spice nose, supported by a refined and elegant palate of dark and red cherries, a long finish and excellent tannins. Enjoyable now, this wine may also be confidently cellared.
