Best's Great Western consistently produce aromatic, flavoursome and perfectly structured Rieslings that stand alongside Australia's great Riesling. The 2019 Best's Great Western Riesling is another excellent example of this variety that is already receiving plenty of plaudits, including Top Gold (96 Points) at the 2019 Victorian Wine Show.

Aromas of kaffir lime and nashi pear with a jasmine lift leady to a palate that offers zesty citrus, crunchy red apple skin supported by a steely backbone. The Rieslings of Best’s have a proven ability to mature gracefully for 20 years or more. This example is no exception and its youthful freshness is a good sign for its long life in the cellar. It will gather complex toasty aromas and flavours as the years pass.

With beginnings in 1866, Best’s Great Western is home to some of Australia’s oldest and most significant vineyards. Best's have a strong reputation for producing world-class wines for over 148 years in Victoria’s Great Western region.

As one of Australia’s oldest and continuously family owned and operated wineries, Best's craft extraordinary and iconic wines of elegance and longevity. Their flagship wine, the Thomson Family Shiraz, has an 'Outstanding' designation from the revered Langton’s Auction house and Bin O Shiraz is rated as 'Distinguished'.

Owned by just two families since 1866, the Best family who founded the winery, and today, their vision lives on through the Thomson’s, having purchased the property after Henry Best’s death in 1920.
The Riesling vines from Great Western produce flavorsome, elegantly structured, spectacularly age-worthy Rieslings which stand confidently alongside some of the most outstanding Australian examples of the variety. In recent times, the style has evolved to match the continental climatic conditions to a beautifully balanced wine with texture and aromatics.

With a warm vintage and dry growing season meant the vines ripened quickly and crops were lower than average. Sufficient water supply ensured the grapevines reminaed in good health and some February rain gave the vines a well-deserved drink and freshening them up before the grapes were harvested.
