The 2017 Battle Of Bosworth McLaren Vale Shiraz is a well-balanced, medium-bodied McLaren Vale Shiraz that reflects strong regional characters and traditional winemaking techniques. Ripe and delicious, this offers up plenty of red and black fruit flavours, a hint of chocolate, a little bit of spice and finishing with great length and lovely tannins. Battle of Bosworth makes single vineyard, organically grown wines from our family vineyards located in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Battle of Bosworth was established in 2001 by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith. The wines take their name from the original Battle of Bosworth, fought on Bosworth Field, Leicestershire, England in 1485.

Joch and Louise have been growing their grapes organically for over 21 years. Joch's vision saw him convert 24 acres of vines to organic viticulture in 1995. In 1999 they gained their organic certification from ACO P/L (Australian Certified Organic). This process represented a big leap of faith in many regards, not least because in those days 'organic' was not the buzzword it is today. Their vineyards were the first in McLaren Vale to achieve organic certification too and they were the very first winery to release an organic wine.

While well-known for their organic certification, the outstanding quality of wines produced at Battle Of Bosworth should not be overlooked. These are wines of flavour, texture, purity and balance, with some of the region's leading examples of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano currently being crafted by the team at Battle Of Bosworth.

McLaren Vale
Traditionally the Battle of Bosworth Shiraz is a crowd-pleasing style of wine; always delicious, ripe but not over-ripe and always faithful to region and site. Winemaking is fairly standard. We pick, crush and then ferment in open vessels and pump over the juice at least 3 times a day. This helps extract the maximum fruit characters and colour from the skins. The wine finishes its ferment in barrels – of various ages and types. We use predominantly French oak barrels with a smattering of American. We also blend a small percentage of cordon cut, vine dried Shiraz to the wine prior to bottling. It really is that simple.

TASTING NOTES: You will find dark red fruits on the nose as well as fresh AND smoked meat. This last descriptor may not appeal to non-meat eaters. This wine is plush, but this plushness is wrapped around a fine structure and is flooded with flavour. It’s an all-round very stylish wine.
