wine regions
Australia has more than 60 wine making regions and sub-regions located across the country, boasting more than 2000 wineries.
For the 2007 growing season the three most prolific wine producing states in descending order were; South Australia (586,000 tonnes), New South Wales (429,000 tonnes) and Victoria (419,000 tonnes). Not surprisingly South Australia maintained its strong position as Australia's leading red wine grape producing state with its 333,000 tonnes accounting for 47% of all red wine produced in the 2007 season. Meanwhile for the 2007 growing season, Victoria was the highest producer of white grapes (263,000 tonnes) accounting for 32% of total white grape production.
