Sauvignon Blanc has experienced an amazing surge in popularity in Australia over the past decade. This has been largely led by the phenomenal success of New Zealand and particularly Marlborough examples. Despite the amazing popularity of New Zealand examples, Australian winemakers are producing exceptional examples that should not be overlooked. Some Australia's best come from South Australia's Adelaide Hills along with Victoria's Yarra Valley and Tasmania. In Margaret River the variety is widely blended with Semillon to produce exceptional dry whites.

The flavours spectrum and style of Sauvignon Blanc can be quite diverse. New Zealand examples tend to have a herbaceous backbone with tropical fruit, passionfruit and gooseberry flavours. Australian examples tend to have similar characters but are generally a little more restrained with more minerality. Which ever you look at it Sauvignon Blanc is perfect for enjoying over the warm Australian Summer in its youth when its freshness and intensity are at a maximum.
