New vintage from Kennedy, notes and reviews coming soon. The Kennedy Vineyard is located on prime land along the east facing slope of the Mount Camel Range on Heathcote’s famed Cambrian soil. Ten hectares of Shiraz vines were planted in the Kennedy Vineyard in 2002, another 10 hectares in 2003 and a small planting in 2007. The Mount Camel Range is a ridge which marks the Heathcote fault that runs through Central Victoria. It comprises Cambrian volcanic rock; which is predominantly Greenstone. This rock has weathered to produce fertile red soil with good drainage properties. This together with the elevation, east facing aspect, moderate temperatures and rainfall (backed up by irrigation if required), enables us to produce the high quality grapes for the Kennedy wine. "Separate parcels of fruit were handpicked, de-stemmed, and fermented in small open fermenters using indigenous yeasts and gentle plunging. After pressing to barrel, the wine was allowed to undergo a natural malolactic fermentation in spring and was bottled using the taint free DIAM technical cork. The best barrels of wine are selected for the Kennedy Label. Bright purple red in colour, it offers aromas of fragrant cherry and summer berries, brown spices and subtle oak notes. The palate is structured and even, with flavours of berry fruits, red currant and cherry on the front palate which integrate perfectly with a gentle spicy mid palate. The fine grained tannins and smart acidity extend the elegant flavours through to the finish." - Notes from Kennedy.
