Frankland Estate Cooladerra Riesling 2009 $27.90
|
"Citrus fruit mainly, but longing to have squeeze of the peaches and mangos, and getting a bit of that juicy sort of action it does too. Very spicy, and while being coarser than its siblings, makes up for it with abundant (almost candied) flavour and impact. On the second day it had calmed down a little, composed itself, and I scored it a point higher. A short break and this one is ready to give satisfaction. Rated : 92 Points Drink : 2010 - 2015" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front. "The small and picturesque Cooladerra vineyard is the most northerly of the three vineyards producing our three different single vineyard Rieslings. As a result it is both warmer and drier than the others. It sits on a steep ironstone knoll and has rocky, intensely fired ironstone gravel soils. The result is a riesling with exotic floral and spice aromas, complex layers of concentrated stone fruit flavours and flinty mineral-infused acidity. The Frankland Estate Cooladerra Riesling has musky, spicy aromas with perfumed floral notes and a dry, spicy, stonefruit-flavoured palate with flinty minerality reminiscent of the gravelly, ironstone soils of the Cooladerra vineyard. Vibrant, steely acidity provides a savoury lift to these complex flavours carrying them through to a long-lingering finish." - Notes from Frankland Estate.

Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Riesling 2009 $29.90

Limited stocks. Riesling wines from the Frankland River region are renowned for their intense varietal flavours and crisp fresh acidity. The Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Vineyard Riesling is consistently ranked among the best in Australia and has won widespread critical acclaim. "95 Points. A classic riesling with every detail perfectly proportioned and balanced; a mix of apple and citrus that glides across the tongue in a continuous line. Organically grown from old vines. Screwcap. 12% alc. Drink 2020 $30 Date Tasted Sep 09" - James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au. "95 Points. I tasted the three single vineyard Rieslings from Frankland Estate side by side, and, yes Virginia, there is terroir. A fine blend of apple blossom, mineral and citrus with very light flavour, although not quite what you’d call dilute, but pure and delicate. Impressive length, clarity and purity. It’s a racy little devil and my favourite of the three single vineyard Rieslings. Tasted : Nov09 Alcohol : 12% Price : $32 Closure : Screwcap Drink : 2010 - 2020+" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front. "The Isolation Ridge vineyard at Frankland Estate is farmed under organic principles, we believe this highlights the flavours that are achieved from the unique soils and climate the wine is grown in. The vineyard is planted on undulating northern and eastern facing slopes and the duplex soils of ironstone gravel over loam over a clay sub-soil. The vines are from two different clones, the Geisenheim and Rhine Riesling, planted in 1988. Both Scott Henry and Vertical Shoot trellis systems are used. The low slow ripening periods typical of the Frankland region allow maximum flavour developments while maintaining the distinctive racy acidity and dry finish for which riesling is renowned." - Frankland Estate.
