Forest Hill Boobook Cabernet Merlot 2008 $16.90
|
"Brilliant crimson; a fragrant bouquet of cassis and plum, then a very lively palate with red fruits and just a touch of green tannins. Screwcap. 14% alc. Rating 90 Drink 2014 $19 Date Tasted Jan 10" - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition. "Medium red in colour with a purple hue. On the nose are lifted aromas of dark fruit, clove and subtle leather aromas with underlying savoury earthy notes. The palate is medium bodied, with a soft fleshy mouth feel with well balanced acidity and fine, chalky tannins. Flavours of sweet dark fruits and cloves carry through onto the palate with hints of earthy characters. The wine is certainly approachable now; though will age well over the next 3 - 5 years. The tannins will soften and integrate with age, adding mid palate richness." - Notes from Forest Hill.

Forest Hill Boobook Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2009 $16.90
|
"91 Points. A bright and fragrant bouquet with floral aromas ranging from herb to citrus sustained on the long palate by minerally acidity and a twitch of lemon zest. Screwcap. 13.5% alc. Drink 2011 $19 Date Tasted Dec 09" - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition. "Best enjoyed in its youth, this harmonious and generous blend represents a broad spectrum of flavours as a result of up to four pickings during cool night harvesting to maintain delicate fruit quality. A fleshy palate reveals flavours of fresh nectarines to cut grass and tropical characters like lychee supported by refreshing well integrated acid for a crisp, fresh, zesty-lemon and flinty finish. This wine is best drunk young with short cellaring up to three years seeing the wine develop more richness and spicy flavours." - Notes from Forest Hill.

Forest Hill Riesling 2010 $18.90
|
New vintage, reviews and tasting notes coming soon. Reviews of the 2009 vintage included below; "93 Points. As Mattinson always likes to say “young Riesling is very hard to judge”, but fools rush in where angels fear to tread… Blossom, Granny Smith apple and lime. A wine of delicacy and zestiness, intense yet breachable acidity, a fine lightly chalky texture and plenty of length - like the slightly rough cut to the finish. Great Great Southern. Tasted : Mar10 Alcohol : 12% Price : $22 Closure : Screwcap Drink : 2011 - 2017" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front. "A very well balanced, typically ‘cool climate’ season. Evenly distributed rain events early on in the season (October) assisting the dry grown vines, very good flowering conditions in October, cool to mild temperatures through to January, and a dry February. The Riesling fruit was harvested within the ‘normal’ date range, mid March, displaying excellent acid balance and very good skin maturation. All fruit was harvested in pristine condition." - Notes from Forest Hill.

This new release will only build on Forest Hill's reputation, who now have firm claims for being one of Western Australia's finest and best value Cabernet producers. "94 Points. Drink 2028 Date Tasted Jun 10" - James Halliday, www.winecompanion.com.au. "You would be hard pressed to find too many better selections of Cabernets in this price bracket than the ones making the final cut in this tasting. A super group. This is one of the best Cabernets from Forest Hill. Blackcurrant and light dusty oak with fine-grained tannins. Excellent Cabernet structure with the angular thread weaving through the tight core of fruit before revealing more luxurious qualities on the finish" - Ray Jordan, The Great Red Tasting $25-$40, The West Australian. "Deep red in colour with a purple hue. Lifted aromas of dark berries with hints of plum and dark chocolate notes. Earthy undertones and savoury notes add complexity on the nose and subtle spices develop in the glass. Medium bodied with a firm rich mouth feel. Flavours of black berry, tobacco leaf and subtle earthy and herbaceous hints carry through onto the palate. Slightly dusty, chewy tannins are already well integrated with good mid-palate richness and definition." - Notes from Forest Hill.

Forest Hill Chardonnay 2009 $21.90
|
New vintage from Forest Hill, reviews of the 2008 vintage included below; "94 Points. I’ll give you the drum early. When the 2007 Block series Cabernet and Shiraz are released, then jump. They are outstanding. I must put my name down too, it being my son’s birthyear and all that. Lemon, lime rind, pear and a good clip of clove spice oak. It has plenty of oomph and complexity with a mix of spicy oak and melon fruit richness that’s cut back by crisp citrus flavours. Has some savoury lees complexity, but not too much, a strong but fine acid backbone and excellent length. An all up impressive wine at a keen price. Tasted : Jan10 Alcohol : 14% Price : $26 Closure : Screwcap Drink : 2011 - 2016" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front. "A wine of elegant and subtle intensity, the Estate Chardonnay represents class in any company. Aromas of ripe peach and apricot complemented by light citrus, hints of vanilla, dry fig and perfumed lifted Burgundian oak introduce a style with a rich intense full palate backed by pleasant hints of roasted almonds and butterscotch. The wine which displays a lingering firm lifted lemon flint-stone finish is a reflection of the best fruit from across the vineyard." - Notes from Forest Hill.

Forest Hill Shiraz 2007 $22.90
|
This is another superb 07 red from Forest Hill after their 2007 estate Cabernet Sauvignon sold out within days of receiving a 97 point review from Halliday. This wine demonstrates why Great Southern is regarded as a fine region for Shiraz. "Lifted aromas of blackberries and white peppers with underlying hints of nutmeg, dark chocolate and earthy notes. Delicate, toasted oak and anise notes add complexity on the nose and further develop in the glass. Medium bodied palate with a black and red berry fruit with intense liquorice flavours carrying through onto the palate with hints of earthy sweet nuts. Toasty vanillin oak flavours featuring fine chewy tannins and a full firm finish with great length. The palate is very well balanced and beautifully structured throughout. The Shiraz is certainly approachable now, and will age gracefully over the next 5-6 years." - Notes from Forest Hill. "94 Points. Has exceptional drive and thrust to the spicy, peppery mix of red and black fruits on the medium-bodied, intense palate; great length and poise. Screwcap. 14.5% alc. Rating 94 Drink 2020 $24 Date Tasted Feb 09 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010 Edition. "94/ 100. Impressive Shiraz from the deep south of WA. Soft and lush palate with a mix of white pepper and savoury dark chocolate. The palate is supple but there is structure and power in the lingering finish. Wonderfully expressive wine that gentle caresses the palate - Ray Jordan, www.rayjordanwineandfood.com.

Screwcap. 13.5% alc. Drink 2020 $38 Date Tasted Feb 09" - James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au. "95 Points. A little wild and funky with some struck match and spicy barrel work, fresh stonefruit and plenty of grapefruit. It’s tight, flinty and lively with strong, but balanced, acidity and a lovely lightly abrasive texture. Length excellent with a spicy grapefruit aftertaste. It’s a fine example of being understated, rather than under done. Tasted: Feb10 Alcohol: 13.5% Price: $38 Closure: Screwcap Drink: 2011 - 2018" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front. "Far more powerful and intense wine than the elegant 2006. Strong smells of meal and grapefruit with some charry oak infusion. Palate is controlled and tightly wound with a long core of fruit sustained with a fine acid. A wine with cellaring potential." - Ray Jordan Top 100 Whites, The West Australian. "The powerful intensity of this cool-climate style, features flavours of white peach, apricot and lemon blossom with underlying mineral characters. Backed by delicate spicy, vanillin oak and a firm acid finish, it is a leaner, tighter style than those from most other Western Australian regions. An excellent structure ensures graceful ageing of at least five years." - Notes from Forest Hill.
