Curly Flat Chardonnay 2006 $39.90

Last stocks available....Curly Flat's Phillip Moraghan claims that his site in Victoria's Macedon Ranges is the coldest vineyard site anywhere in Australia. It is little wonder then that Phillip and wife Jeni chose to focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir when they established Curly Flat in the early 1990's. On a recent visit to Australia the highly respected wine writer and Master of Wine, Jancis Robinson made it a priority to visit Curly Flat and taste their new releases which she clearly very impressed by.

"96 Points. Bright straw-green; a high quality wine which is at peace with its maker - and itself; the components are harmoniously balanced, yet are quite vocal, notably the white peach, grapefruit and nectarine flavours on the long palate. Screwcap. 13.6% alc. Drink 2017 $40 Date Tasted Feb 09" - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010 Edition.

"18/20. Drink 2010-17. Bright, slightly greenish yellow. Nutty, complex nose already. Then wonderful delicacy with floral notes. Less skinny than the 2002. More glycerol – perhaps because of ambient yeasts? 12.8% - the lightest in alcohol of this lot." - Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com.

"96 Points. A wine that shines more brightly with each new release, this is a masterful expression of cool climate vineyard elegance and subtlety. Pure lemony fruit, white almond meal complexity and lovely delicacy with crème caramel and baby powder softness. $40 13.6% alcohol. Macedon Ranges." - Tony Love, Top 100 Wines, The Advertiser, November 10, 2009.

"Very restrained, smooth and supple, this evolving chardonnay has marries rather shy peach, nectarine and grapefruit flavours with a complex meaty background of wheatmeal, lanolin and sweet vanilla oak. It's smooth and seamless, with a creamy, buttery and finely textured palate of length and harmony, finishing long and savoury.(17.9/92, YTD 2012-2015" - Jeremy Oliver, jeremyoliver.com.au.

“Bright, light gold with tinge of green. The nose is generous and complex, with ripe stone fruit (white peach), fresh straw/grass, cashews, oatmeal, ripe lime, floral hints (apple blossom), honey, hint of ocean/ oyster and some fresh toasty oak in the background. The palate has medium plus weight and complex with a backbone of bright crisp acidity and ripe fruit – the citrus tones showing more than the stone fruits. Textured, with an integrated oak underlay and consistent palate line that extends to a long finish.” - Notes from Curly Flat, 17 September 2009.

"96 Points. Bright, gleaming quartz-green; a super-elegant wine that reflects its terroir in much the same way as riesling does, even though there are more winemaking inputs; grapefruit, apple, nectarine and mineral notes are the leaders, oak a vehicle and no more. Immaculately crafted. Screwcap. 12.8% alc. Drink 2020 $44 Date Tasted Mar 10" - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.

Curly Flat Pinot Noir 2007 $46.90

New vintage from Curly Flat. Long regarded as one of Australia's finest producers of Pinot Noir, the new vintage from Curly Flat will only strengthen this claim. The 2007 version is a classic Curly Flat Pinot Noir with an elegant structure, soft silky mouthfeel, dark cherry flavours and the long, lingering finish that we have come to expect from Curly Flat.

"95 Points. Good crimson-purple hue, although not 100% bright; as ever, a complex and powerful wine, with black cherry and plum up front, then spicy/savoury/forest notes accompany the fruit on the back-palate and finish. No doubting the security of the screwcap in protecting freshness. Screwcap. 13.5% alc. Drink 2020 $51 Date Tasted Mar 10" - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.
