Great Southern

The Great Southern region is the largest, in area, of all wine regions in Australia and produces 37% of wine grapes produced in Western Australia. This enormous wine region is comprised of five sub-regions: Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and the Porongurup.

The climate ranges from Maritime to Mediterranean, producing outstanding varietal styles of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with some excellent Pinot Noir in selected areas

Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are the main white varieties produced. Frankland River, Mount Barker and the Porongurup are sub-regions that produce some of Australia’s finest Rieslings.

Amongst the leading wineries of Great Southern are Howard Park, Frankland Estate, West Cape Howe, Ferngrove, Alkoomi and Plantagenet.
