Macedon Ranges
Located on the northern outskirts of Melbourne, the Macedon Ranges lays claim to being Australia's coolest wine region.
Uniquely suited to the production of ultra premium sparkling wine, it also manages to produce some of Australia’s leading examples of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Riesling.
The size of the wineries is small and is likely to remain so. It is hard to imagine any of the larger wine companies moving in and this, at the end of the day, is exactly how the vignerons of the area wish it to be.
Standout wineries in the area include, Granite Hills, Curly Flat, Domaine Epis, Hanging Rock and Cobaw Ridge.
