Neudorf Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Neudorf Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Neudorf Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Nelson, New Zealand   |    750ml   |    12.5%
Neudorf is undoubtedly one of our favourite New Zealand wineries, and the fact that it maintains a relatively low profile seems to only add to its appeal. There's a lot to like about a winery that lets it wines do the talking, particularly when they are of the class of Neudorf's offerings.

We've been impressed by recent vintages of the Neudorf Sauvignon Blanc and the 2013 vintage is another striking and complex example of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Neudorf describe this wine as "Sauvignon Blanc for adults". Juicy, ripe and rich Sauvignon with notes of frangipani, passionfruit and florals. This is a complex wine with a long mineral, structured finish. There is some barrel ferment influence but nothing intrusive or overbearing.

“Tasted alongside the 2012 vintage I preferred the generosity, richness and warmth of this younger wine. It has similar minerality and lees/oak induced texture but is infused with greater charm and accessibility. I found pineapple, guava, mineral and mango flavours. Very classy wine that grows in the glass (a brief period of decanting is recommended). 93/100″ - Bob Campbell MW.

"Bright, very pale straw-yellow colour, pale on edge. This has an elegant and stylishly proportioned nose with restrained aromas of gooseberries and stonefruits revealing mineral, white floral and citrus detail in the glass. Dry to taste, this is very fine-featured with intense flavours of gooseberries, stonefruits, citrus and limes. The fruit notes are nuanced and interwoven, forming a good core with presence, and have a deliciously subtle richness which is enhanced by bright, lively acidity. The palate has excellent tension and a refined mouthfeel that flows to a lingering, softly dry finish. This is a beautifully refined and detailed Sauvignon Blanc with a stylish array of flavours. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 2-3 years. 18.5-/20 Mar 2013" - Raymond Chan, www.raymondchanwinereviews.co.nz.

"Complex, ripe and fragrant. A sophisticated smooth Sauvignon showing restraint and elegance. Like Neudorf's Moutere Chardonnay this wine shows the house style of power and intensity but is neither brash nor overt. On the nose guava, elderflower and hints of mimosa and mango. The wine is dry but smooth and complete. Cropping rates were low and a portion of the fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed. This has reduced the phenolic presence, enhancing finesse and leaving a creamy mouthfeel and a very long finish. Neudorf Sauvignon's are not early onto the market and there is no push to drink them young. The intention is for a food friendly wine to drink this summer and into 2013."- Notes from Neudorf.
