Forest Hill Shiraz 2007 $22.90
|
This is another superb 07 red from Forest Hill after their 2007 estate Cabernet Sauvignon sold out within days of receiving a 97 point review from Halliday. This wine demonstrates why Great Southern is regarded as a fine region for Shiraz. "Lifted aromas of blackberries and white peppers with underlying hints of nutmeg, dark chocolate and earthy notes. Delicate, toasted oak and anise notes add complexity on the nose and further develop in the glass. Medium bodied palate with a black and red berry fruit with intense liquorice flavours carrying through onto the palate with hints of earthy sweet nuts. Toasty vanillin oak flavours featuring fine chewy tannins and a full firm finish with great length. The palate is very well balanced and beautifully structured throughout. The Shiraz is certainly approachable now, and will age gracefully over the next 5-6 years." - Notes from Forest Hill. "94 Points. Has exceptional drive and thrust to the spicy, peppery mix of red and black fruits on the medium-bodied, intense palate; great length and poise. Screwcap. 14.5% alc. Rating 94 Drink 2020 $24 Date Tasted Feb 09 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010 Edition. "94/ 100. Impressive Shiraz from the deep south of WA. Soft and lush palate with a mix of white pepper and savoury dark chocolate. The palate is supple but there is structure and power in the lingering finish. Wonderfully expressive wine that gentle caresses the palate - Ray Jordan, www.rayjordanwineandfood.com.
