Shaw and Smith Shiraz as firmly established itself as one of Australia’s leading examples of cool climate Shiraz.
"94 Points. Vivid crimson hue; loaded with dark plum, mulberry, smoked meat and attractive warm spices; the palate delivers layers of ripe red and black fruit, hints of oak and ample fine-grained tannins; firm, savoury and thoroughly appealing to conclude. Screwcap. 14% alc. Drink 2018 $38 Date Tasted Feb 10" - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.
"92 Points. This was quite cryptic and shy when tasted six months ago but it's settling in nicely. Ripe dark brambly cherry fruit aromas, bergamot and fine background spices on the nose. The palate has a silken side and is atacked with red and black fruit flavour, the acid snaps crunchy through the finish" - Nick Stock, Wine 100, March 2010.
"2008 Shaw & Smith Shiraz - this Adelaide Hills medium-palate shiraz is simply divine. For around $40 it's something to savour on a special occasion, of you if just feel like treating yourself. Up there with the best cool-climate shiraz in Australia" - David Prestipino WA Today, April 8, 2010.
"A near perfect run up to harvest with no frosts, good flowering and a very cool February. A 15 day heat wave in early March resulted in a fast & furious grape intake and challenged all our resources. Despite the last minute heat, the quality is good – particularly flavour and palate weight. Crop levels were l imited to 2kg per vine." - Notes from Shaw and Smith.
